Jannis Zotos, der sich seit Jahren mit der Vertonung griechischer Lyriker beschäftigt, stellt an diesem Abend sein neues Album "Hydra" vor. Die Texte lieferte diesmal der griechischen Nobelpreisträger für Literatur Giorgos Seferis. Begleitet wird Jannis von einer hochkarätigen Band bestehend aus der Crème de la Crème der in Deutschland ansässigen Szene. Komplettiert wird das Programm mit Songs seiner vorherigen Alben "amour fou" und "Signals Phones tis Mnimis".

Jannis Zotos ist eine der prägenden Figuren der Berliner Kulturszene. Seit den 1980er Jahren, als er an der hiesigen Musikschule klassische Gitarre studierte ist er einer der Motoren der künstlerischen Seite der Hauptstadt. Er spielte in vielen wegweisenden Projekten von der Musik deutscher Singer-Songwriter über Rock bis hin zu traditioneller griechischer Musik. Besonders hervorzuheben ist die Zusammenarbeit mit dem Komponisten Mikis Theodorakis, den Zotos bei Touren begleitete, Arrangements für dessen Orchester schrieb und die eine enge musikalische und persönliche Freundschaft verbindet. Außerdem ist Zotos weiterhin als vielgefragter Komponist für Film und Theater aktiv, spielt neben der Gitarre auch noch virtuos Oud und Bouzouki und ist seit den 1990er Jahren Betreiber einer wichtigen Institution für Jazz und akustische Musik in Berlin, dem b-Flat.

Die in Athen geborene Schauspielerin und Sopranistin Christina Fronista gehört zu den gefragtesten ihres Faches. Sie studierte Schauspiel in Athen und bildete sich in Berlin gesanglich weiter. Sie spielte in zahlreichen Opern, Musicals, ist als Sängerin von Chansons überaus erfolgreich und tritt deutschlandweit in zahlreichen Projekten auf.

Thanassis Zotos ist wie sein Bruder Jannis eine prägende Figur der Berliner Szene. Er leitet gemeinsam mit diesem das b-Flat und ist ein vielgefragter Musiker, der in unterschiedlichsten Genres beheimatet ist.

Rolf Zielke wurde 1964 in Hameln, Deutschland, geboren. Sein Wirken beinhaltet Kooperationen mit Charlie Mariano, Thomas Quasthoff, Mike Stern, Biréli Lagrène, David Friedman, Stacey Kent und vielen mehr und führte ihn in die USA, durch Asien und Afrika sowie 15 europäischen Länder (Konzerte in London, Madrid, Zürich, Rom, Warschau, St. Petersburg, Istanbul). Rolf Zielke unterrichtet am Jazz-Institut Berlin.

Mit Max Hughes sorgt einer der besten E-Bassisten der Stadt für das harmonische Fundament. Seit vielen Jahren Lehrbeauftragter für E-Bass am JIB, spielte er schon mit Chaka Khan, Toni Braxton, Wolfgang Dauner oder Ack van Rooyen.

Thomas Alkier gehört zu den profiliertesten und besten Schlagzeugern Deutschlands. Seit frühester Jugend sitzt er am Schlagzeug und absolvierte ab 1983 ein Studium an der Musikhochschule Köln. Er spielte in einigen stilprägenden Formationen mit, unter anderem der Volker Kriegel - Band, dem Vienna Art Orchestra und tut dies auch immer noch mit der Gruppe Nighthawks oder der Jocelyn B. Smith - Band. Weiterhin spielte er mit noch mit Dizzy Gillespie, Jerry Bergonzi, Betty Carter, Gary Burton, Mike Stern, Michel Petrucciani und Albert Mangelsdorff, um nur einige zu nennen. 1987 war er Teil des Gründungsteams der Jazzabteilung der Folkwang-Universität der Künste und ist seitdem durchgehend Dozent für Schlagzeug und Ensemble.

Jannis Zotos, who has been setting Greek poets to music for years, will be presenting his new album "Hydra" on this evening. This time the lyrics were provided by the Greek Nobel Prize winner for literature Giorgos Seferis. Jannis will be accompanied by a top-class band consisting of the crème de la crème of the German scene. The program will be completed with songs from his previous albums "amour fou" and "Signals Phones tis Mnimis".

Jannis Zotos is one of the defining figures of the Berlin cultural scene. Since the 1980s, when he studied classical guitar at the local music school, he has been one of the driving forces behind the artistic side of the capital. He has played in many groundbreaking projects ranging from German singer-songwriters to rock and traditional Greek music. Particularly noteworthy is his collaboration with composer Mikis Theodorakis, whom Zotos accompanied on tours, wrote arrangements for his orchestra and who share a close musical and personal friendship. Zotos is also still active as a much sought-after composer for film and theater, plays the guitar as well as the oud and bouzouki with virtuosity and has been the operator of an important institution for jazz and acoustic music in Berlin, the b-Flat, since the 1990s.

The Athens-born actress and soprano Christina Fronista is one of the most sought-after in her field. She studied acting in Athens and continued her vocal training in Berlin. She has performed in numerous operas and musicals, is extremely successful as a singer of chansons and appears in numerous projects throughout Germany.

Like his brother Jannis, Thanassis Zotos is a formative figure on the Berlin scene. He runs the b-Flat together with his brother and is a much sought-after musician who is at home in a wide variety of genres.

Rolf Zielke was born in Hamelin, Germany, in 1964. His work includes collaborations with Charlie Mariano, Thomas Quasthoff, Mike Stern, Biréli Lagrène, David Friedman, Stacey Kent and many more and has taken him to the USA, Asia and Africa as well as 15 European countries (concerts in London, Madrid, Zurich, Rome, Warsaw, St. Petersburg, Istanbul). Rolf Zielke teaches at the Jazz Institute Berlin.

Max Hughes, one of the best electric bassists in town, provides the harmonic foundation. He has been teaching electric bass at the JIB for many years and has played with Chaka Khan, Toni Braxton, Wolfgang Dauner and Ack van Rooyen.

Thomas Alkier is one of the most distinguished and best drummers in Germany. He has been playing the drums since his earliest youth and studied at the Cologne University of Music from 1983. He has played in several style-defining formations, including the Volker Kriegel Band, the Vienna Art Orchestra and continues to do so with the Nighthawks and the Jocelyn B. Smith Band. He has also played with Dizzy Gillespie, Jerry Bergonzi, Betty Carter, Gary Burton, Mike Stern, Michel Petrucciani and Albert Mangelsdorff, to name but a few. In 1987, he was part of the founding team of the jazz department at the Folkwang University of the Arts and has been a lecturer for percussion and ensemble ever since.
