Die Sängerin und Weltenbummlerin Céline Rudolph bewegt sich zwischen Berlin, São Paulo, Paris und New York im experimentellen Jazz ebenso wie in brasilianischer Musik, afrikanisch geprägter World Music, eindringlich interpretierten Chansons und urbanen Singer-Songwriter Sounds. Sie lässt sich zwischen Genres, Sprachen und Städten treiben und landet immer punktgenau in der Musik. Auf ihr Duoalbum OBSESSION (2017) mit Herbie Hancocks Lieblingsgitarristen Lionel Loueke folgte das Album PEARLS (2019), auf dem neben diesem Ausnahmegitarristen auch Leo Genovese, Burniss Travis und Jamire Williams zu hören sind, die man sonst aus Bands von Glasper, Spalding und Co kennt.

Die zweifache ECHO-Preisträgerin spielt im Zigzag brandneue Musik, die 2020 und 2021 im heimischen Atelier erdacht, ersungen, erspielt wurde und die jetzt auf der Bühne durch ihre berührende Stimme und das klangliche Kaleidoskop der Band zum Leuchten gebracht werden. Die Kompositionen werden live auf eine Soundreise geschickt, improvisatorisch und spielerisch erweitert. Dabei schöpft die Band aus den klanglichen Möglichkeiten, die jeder der Musiker einbringt: Sebastian Merk an den Drums, Keyboards, Bass und elektronischen Sounds, Regis Molina an Querflöte, Altsaxophon und Percussion, Povel Widestrand am Piano und Céline Rudolph, die zur Stimme auch akustische Gitarre und Percussion spielt. ★★★★★ „...Was für eine fantastische Sängerin und Songschreiberin Rudolph ist... Vocalist and composer Céline Rudolph glides between Berlin, São Paulo, Paris and New York, between tongues and genres, always landing in the very heart of music.
Now new music is on the way. She has been working with multi-instrumentalist Sebastian Merk this summer. And now they are really excited to share the spirit live with Cuban alto/flute player Regis Molina and Swedish pianist Povel Widestrand, all based in Berlin! Most of the music is built upon vocal songlines that they loop. „Songlines“ ? That’s how Céline calls melodies repeated in a circle. Each songline belongs to only one song. Sebastian samples Céline’s looped melodies and re:constructs them with electronic sounds and filters. On top of these songlines, she composed instrumental melodies and poems.

Since 2015 she is collaborating with Beninese guitarist Lionel Loueke, having recorded the duo album OBSESSION and then playing together at 12th Jarasum Int. Jazz Festival in South Korea. The album OBSESSION reached the annual list of the German Critics Award „Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik“, and won Céline Rudolph the prestigious German Jazz Award ECHO JAZZ 2018 for best jazz vocalist.
Now, praised as “a jewel of European jazz vocals” by the French radio station, TSF, having recorded numerous albums with many wonderful musicians including Gary Peacock, Bob Moses, Naná Vasconcelos, Diego Figueiredo and Marcos Suzano, and esteemed by colleagues like Bobby McFerrin, Lee Konitz or Jay Clayton, the adventurous pearl fisher sailed from Berlin to Brooklyn for her latest album PEARLS (released 2019). „One of the jazz vocals records of the year without a shadow of a doubt and the main reason for this beyond her fine voice is the quality of the compositional arc and great sweep of style at play throughout.“ Stephen Graham, marlbank.net (UK), 2019
