Der Zig Zag-Jazzclub ist stolz darauf unsere neue Konzertreihe in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Jazz-Institut Berlin (JIB) fortzuführen, die musikalischen Talenten der internationalen Szene eine Bühne bieten wird. Das Jazz-Institut Berlin gilt deutschlandweit wie auch international als eine der renommiertesten Ausbildungsstätten für Jazz und zieht viele Talente aus der ganzen Welt an. Das Gal Golob Trio ist ein in Berlin ansässiges Trio unter der Leitung des slowenischen Cellisten und Kontrabassisten Gal Golob. Das Repertoire besteht aus Originalmusik, die volkstümliche Melodien mit modernen Improvisationstechniken verbindet. Die Kompositionen sind zuweilen deutlich von der traditionellen Musik des Balkans und des Nahen Ostens beeinflusst - unter Verwendung mikrotonaler Modi und ambienter Drones - sowie von den musikalischen Ansätzen experimentellerer Jazz-Ensembles wie dem Paul Motian Trio. Diese eklektische Kombination sorgt für eine dynamische Performance, bei der das Trio zwischen euphorischen und expressiven Soli und meditativen Sequenzen hin- und herpendelt. Die Beschränkung auf ein Minimum an geschriebenem Material ermöglicht es dem Trio, freier zu kommunizieren und sich auszudrücken, und sogar spontan zu arrangieren und zu komponieren. Mit ihrem Schwerpunkt auf Gruppenimprovisation sind die Auftritte des Trios manchmal für die Interpreten ebenso überraschend wie für den Zuhörer.

Seth Sjöström ist ein in Berlin lebender Bassist und Komponist mit Wurzeln in Nordschweden. Seine Musik wird zu einer Fusion aus skandinavischem Jazz und zeitgenössischer Improvisationsmusik, wenn die nordische Melancholie seiner Heimat auf die Avantgarde Berlins trifft. Mit starken Melodien und explosiven Improvisationen strebt er nach totaler Authentizität und Präsenz, Kraft und Verletzlichkeit.

Das Latino Jazz Project-O versucht, einen neuen Jazzstil zu kreieren, der die musikalischen Wurzeln der verschiedenen lateinamerikanischen Länder in die Welt des Jazz einbringt. Zusammen mit den bewährten Sounds, der Ästhetik und der Komplexität der Jazzmusik schaffen die jungen Musiker eine neue musikalische Sphäre, ohne die musikalische Geschichte der Stile zu verleugnen. Improvisation, Rhythmik und Komplexität beider Welten vereint: Die Musik der Karibik, der Pazifikküste Kolumbiens und Perus, die Musik der Anden, die Rhythmen der afro-amerikanischen Ureinwohner und der erwachsene Modern Jazz.

The Gal Golob Trio is a Berlin based group led by Slovenian cellist and double bassist Gal Golob. Their repertoire consists of original music combining folk-like melodies and modern improvisational techniques. The compositions are at times clearly influenced by Balkan and Middle Eastern traditional music – taking use of microtonal modes and ambient drones – as well as the musical approaches of more experimental jazz ensembles such as the Paul Motian Trio. This eclectic combination ensures a dynamic performance as the trio floats between euphoric solos and meditational sequences. Keeping the written material at a minimum allows the trio to communicate and express more freely, and even spontaneously arrange and compose. With their focus on group improvisation, the trio’s performances can at times be just as much of a surprise to the performers as they are to the listener.

Seth Sjöström is a Berlin based bass-player and composer with roots in northern Sweden. His music becomes a fusion between Scandinavian Jazz and contemporary improvisational music when the nordic melancholy from his home meets the avantgarde of Berlin. With strong melodies and explosive improvisations, he strives for total authenticity, vulnerability and presence.

The Latino Jazz Project-O seeks to create a new style of jazz that brings the musical roots of the various Latin American countries into the world of jazz. Together with the established sounds, aesthetics and complexity of jazz music, the young musicians create a new musical sphere without denying the musical history of the styles. Improvisation, rhythm and complexity of both worlds united: the music of the Caribbean, the Pacific coast of Colombia and Peru, the music of the Andes, the rhythms of the Afro-American natives and adult modern jazz.
