Machen Sie sich bereit für einen Abend voller “Tenor Madness”, wenn zwei der besten und profiliertesten Tenorsaxophonisten Deutschlands ihre Hörner kreuzen. In regelmäßigen Abständen verwandeln Peter Weniger und Ben Kraef mit den besten Rhythmusgruppen Deutschlands den ZigZag in in einen Siedekessel.
Die Zwei-Tenor-Band war in der gesamten Jazzgeschichte ein charakteristischer Sound, wobei jede Generation herausragende Formationen wie Coleman Hawkins/Ben Webster,
Dexter Gordon/Wardell Gray, Gene Ammons/Sonny Stitt, Zoot Sims/Al Cohn oder Eddie „Lockjaw“ Davis/Johnny Griffin hervorbrachte.
Ben Kraef/Peter Weniger treten in diese Fußstapfen, ohne nur zu kopieren, sondern verleihen den schnellen Swingern, mittelschnellen saftigen Grooves und Balladen, die diese Nacht so heterogen wie eine Zugfahrt machen werden, ihre eigene unverwechselbare Persönlichkeit. Angetrieben von einer Rhythmusgruppe, die aus drei der vielseitigsten Jazzmusiker der Szene besteht, sind Tino Derado, Matthias Pichler und Paolo Orlandi allesamt etablierte Komponisten und Bandleader, die in den letzten Jahren internationale Karrieren aufgebaut haben.

Ben Kraef ist ein deutsch-montenegrinischer Saxophonist und Komponist, der in Berlin lebt. Ben schloss sein Studium an der Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin ab und erwarb 2009 einen Master of Arts am City College of New York, wo er 2008 mit dem Billie-Stoller-Stipendium für einen herausragenden Wissenschaftler und Musiker ausgezeichnet wurde. Die Liste der international renommierten Musiker mit denen Ben auftrat und aufnahm, umfasst Koryphäen wie Lalo Schifrin, Fred Hersch, Pee Wee Ellis und Till Brönner sowie Popgruppen wie "Wir Sind Helden" und die Radio-Bigbands von HR und WDR.

Peter Weniger gehört zu den gefragtesten Instrumentalisten der europäischen Jazzszene. Der heute in Berlin lebende Saxofonist spielte im Verlauf seiner bisherigen Karriere unter anderem mit Musikern wie John Abercrombie, Adam Nussbaum, Conrad Herwig, Jeff Hamilton oder Dave Liebman auf und war auch auf CDs und in Konzerten mit Jasper van't Hoff, Eddie Palmieri, Billy Cobham, Jean Louis Matinier u.v.a. zu hören. Neben seinen Live - Aktivitäten unterrichtet Weniger seit 1999 im Rahmen einer Professur an der "Universität der Künste"- Berlin und ist war bis Mitte 2019 der künstlerische Leiter des Jazz- Institutes.

Tino Derado: Professor an der HfMH und am Jazz-Institut Berlin. Er lebte für 14 Jahre in New York City und war dort ein aktives Mitglied der lokalen Jazzszene. Sein Portfolio beinhaltet Zusammenarbeiten mit Jamey Haddad, Gary Burton, Peter Erskine, Richard Bona, Andy Gonzalez und vielen mehr. Er ist einer der vielseitigsten und kompetentesten in Deutschland lebenden Pianisten.

Josh Ginsburg ist eine feste Größe auf den Konzertbühnen und in den Jazzclubs der Welt. Sein jüngstes Album als Leader, "Zembla Variations", wurde vom New York City Jazz Record zum Album des Jahres gewählt. Als New Yorker Musiker der ersten Stunde trat er regelmäßig mit zahlreichen einflussreichen Musikern auf und war auf internationalen Tourneen mit Bands von Kurt Rosenwinkel, David Friedman, Jeremy Pelt, E.J. Strickland, George Colligan, Jure Pukl, Logan Richardson, Diego Piñera, Tino Derado und Aruán Ortiz.

Paolo Orlandi ist ein italienischer Drummer und Jazzpädagoge. Studiert hat er in Mailand und New York; in letzterer Stadt teilte er die Bühne mit dem Who-is-Who der Szene, allen voran mit Bassistenlegende John Patitucci, der über Paolo schrieb: "Paolo has always been a gifted, swinging, sensitive drummer and all around musician. He also possesses a brilliant mind and he is a great teacher.” Er tourte weltweit und ist ein hochgeschätzter Sideman, ebenfalls ist er Professor für Schlagzueug am Konservatorium von Genf.

Throughout the history of jazz the two-tenor band has been a characteristic sound, with each generation bringing forth outstanding formations such as Coleman Hawkins/Ben Webster,

Ben Kraef/ Peter Weniger follow in these footsteps without merely just copying but adding their own unmistakable personalities to the fast swingers, medium-tempo juicy grooves and ballads that will make this night as heterogeneous as train ride. Fuelled by a rhythm section that consists of three of the most versatile jazz musicians around, Tino Derado, Matthias Pichler and Paolo Orlandi are all established composers and bandleaders in their own right who have built up international careers throughout the last years.

Ben Kraef is a German-Montenegrin saxophonist and composer based in Berlin. Ben graduated from the University of Music “Hanns Eisler”, Berlin and obtained a Master of Arts from The City College of New York in 2009 where he was also awarded the Billie Stoller Scholarship to an outstanding scholar and musician in 2008. Peter Weniger is one of the most sought-after instrumentalists on the European jazz scene. In the course of his career to date, the saxophonist, who now lives in Berlin, has performed with musicians such as John Abercrombie, Adam Nussbaum, Conrad Herwig, Jeff Hamilton and Dave Liebman, and has also appeared on CDs and in concerts with Jasper van't Hoff, Eddie Palmieri, Billy Cobham, Jean Louis Matinier and many others. Josh Ginsburg is a fixture on concert stages and in jazz clubs around the world. His most recent album as a leader, "Zembla Variations", was named Album of the Year by the New York City Jazz Record. A New York musician from the beginning, he has performed regularly with many influential musicians and has toured internationally with bands led by Kurt Rosenwinkel, David Friedman, Jeremy Pelt, E.J. Paolo Orlandi is an Italian drummer and jazz educator. He studied in Milan and New York; in the latter city he shared the stage with the who's who of the scene, above all with bassist legend John Patitucci, who wrote about Paolo: "Paolo has always been a gifted, swinging, sensitive drummer and all around musician. He also possesses a brilliant mind and he is a great teacher." He has toured worldwide and is a highly esteemed sideman, as well as a professor of percussion at the Geneva Conservatory.
