MONK'S FRUIT entstanden durch die gemeinsame Leidenschaft von Rachelle Jeanty & Johannes Lauer für die Musik von Thelonious Monk. Die beiden hochkreativen und umtriebigen Musiker haben die Kompositionen des Genies neu interpretiert und dabei die Tiefe, die Schönheit und die Komplexität seiner Musik respektiert. Gestartet als Duo, jetzt mit einem Kontrabass, Schlagzeug, Percussions und Posaune gewürzt, bieten MONK'S FRUIT eine fröhliche Feier von Monks Humor, tiefem Rhythmusgefühl und unvergleichlicher kompositorischer Originalität.

Rachelle Jeanty ist in New York geboren und sie ist in Montreal aufgewachsene. Die Sängerin hat ihre Wurzeln in Haiti. Rachelle tritt seit ihrem 4. Lebensjahr in der folkloristischen Tanztruppe ihres Vaters auf und ihre Liebe zur karibischen Musik entfaltet sich, wenn sie singt und ihre Rhythmen auf Congas und Bongos spielt. Rachelle, das neueste Mitglied von LES COLORÉS (The Coloured), vertieft den Groove und das Repertoire dieser farbenfrohen afrokaribischen Jazzband mit ihrem Perkussionsspiel und ihrer melodischen Stimme. Nach einer Welttournee als Backsängerin für Celine Dion und 25 Jahren Gesang von Jazz bis Pop beginnt Rachelle ein neues Kapitel ihres musikalischen Lebens, indem sie zu ihren Wurzeln zurückkehrt und der Öffentlichkeit ihre karibische Seele bietet.

Johannes Lauer lebt in Berlin und konzentriert sich vor allem auf die Duo-Explorationen mit der afro-peruanischen Musikerin Laura Robles, sein mikrotonales und mikrorhythmisches Quartett Morf, die Zusammenarbeit mit dem Tänzer Ahmed Soura aus Burkina Faso und seine internationale Bigband Lauer Large, die gerade ihr zweites Album "Less Beat More!" veröffentlicht hat, dessen erstes bereits internationale Beachtung fand.

Matthias Pichler studierte klassischen Kontrabass am Konservatorium Innsbruck und Jazzbass an der Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität Linz. 2004 erhielt er den Hans-Koller-Preis, der ein Reisestipendium für einen Aufenthalt in New York beinhaltete. 2006 gewann er den Hans-Koller-Preis in der Kategorie „Sideman des Jahres“ und wurde im selben Jahr auch für den HK „Newcomer“-Award nominiert. 2010 gewann er den ersten Preis beim Jazzwettbewerb des internationalen Kontrabasskongresses „Bass2010“ in Berlin. Matthias war 8 Jahre lang Mitglied des Wolfgang Muthspiel Trios und spielte mit vielen weiteren international renommierten Musikern.

Ivars Arutyunyan ist ein musikalischer, energiegeladener, dynamischer Musiker und Schlagzeuger aus Lettland. Er hat sein ganzes Leben lang Musik studiert verbrachte mehrere Jahre in Kopenhagen und Paris, lebt jetzt in Berlin. Er ist ein aktives Mitglied der europäischen Jazz- und Improvisationsmusikszene und hat mit Künstlern wie Seamus Blake, Greg Osby, Logan Richardson, Jerry Bergonzi, Jesse van Ruller und Carsten Dahl gespielt, um nur einige zu nennen. Er ist in mehr als 30 Ländern aufgetreten und wurde mit dem Großen Lettischen Musikpreis 2022, der Besten Jazzplatte des Jahres in Lettland (2019), dem Grand Prix in Jazz Hoeilaart (BE), dem Almeria Jazz (ESP) und dem Yamaha Drum Day (LV) ausgezeichnet ) usw.

MONK'S FRUIT was born out of the shared passion of Rachelle Jeanty & Johannes Lauer for the music of Thelonious Monk. These two highly creative and versatile musicians have reimagined the genius composer’s works while honoring the depth, beauty, and complexity of his music. What began as a duo has now evolved into a full ensemble, enriched with double bass, drums, percussion, and trombone. MONK'S FRUIT delivers a joyful celebration of Monk’s humor, deep sense of rhythm, and unparalleled compositional originality.

Rachelle Jeanty was born in New York and grew up in Montreal. The singer has her roots in Haiti. Rachelle has been performing in her father's folkloric dance troupe since the age of 4 and her love for Caribbean music unfolds as she sings and plays her rhythms on congas and bongos. Rachelle, the newest member of LES COLORÉS (The Colored), deepens the groove and repertoire of this colorful Afro-Caribbean jazz band with her percussion playing and melodic voice. After a world tour as backing singer for Celine Dion and 25 years of singing from jazz to pop, Rachelle begins a new chapter in her musical life by returning to her roots and offering her Caribbean soul to the public.

Johannes Lauer lives in Berlin, mainly focussing on the duo-explorations with afro-peruvian musician Laura Robles, his micro-tonal and micro-rhythmical quartet Morf, the collaboration with dancer Ahmed Soura from Burkina Faso and his international big band Lauer Large, which just released its second album "Less Beat More!", the first one having received international attention.

Matthias Pichler studied classical double bass at the Innsbruck Conservatory and jazz bass at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz. In 2004 he received the Hans Koller Award, which included a scholarship to travel to New York. In 2006, he won the Hans Koller Award in the "Sideman of the Year" category and was also nominated for the HK "Newcomer" Award that same year. In 2010 he won the first prize at the jazz competition of the international double bass congress "Bass2010" in Berlin. Matthias was a member of the Wolfgang Muthspiel Trio for 8 years and played with many other internationally renowned musicians.

Ivars Arutyunyan is a musical, energetic, dynamic musician and drummer from Latvia. He has studied music all his life spent several years in Copenhagen and Paris, now lives in Berlin. He is an active member of the European jazz and improvised music scene and has played with artists such as Seamus Blake, Greg Osby, Logan Richardson, Jerry Bergonzi, Jesse van Ruller and Carsten Dahl, to name a few. He has performed in more than 30 countries and has been awarded the Latvian Music Grand Prize 2022, Best Jazz Record of the Year in Latvia (2019), Grand Prix in Jazz Hoeilaart (BE), Almeria Jazz (ESP) and Yamaha Drum Day (LV) ) etc.
