2022 nur mit einem Koffer auf Tournee in Italien gestrandet, beschloss der bekannte russische Jazzbassist Makar Novikov, sich auf das Wagnis einzulassen, sich von seiner Heimat abzuwenden und ein neues Leben im Herzen Europas zu beginnen. Seitdem hat sich Novikov als wichtiger Teil der europäischen Szene etabliert und wir können uns glücklich schätzen am heutigen Abend die Premiere seines neuen, international besetzten Quintetts präsentieren zu können, dessen Debutalbum noch dieses Jahr erscheinen wird. Auf dem Programm stehen Eigenkompositionen, geprägt von mitreißenden Grooves und originellen einprägsamen Melodien.

Makar Novikov aus Moskau ist einer der bekanntesten russischen Jazz-Kontrabassisten. Als erfahrener Begleiter und virtuoser Solist ist er mit Künstlern wie Jimmy Cobb, Clark Terry, Jimmy Heath und James Spaulding aufgetreten. Er ist Absolvent der anerkannten Gnesins' Russian Academy of Music. Nach seinem Umzug nach Italien im Jahr 2022 begann er, intensiv mit italienischen Musikern wie Rosario Giuliani oder Maurizio Giammarco zusammenzuarbeiten und Jazzbass an der Siena Jazz University zu unterrichten. Heute tritt er regelmäßig als Mitglied der Projekte von Alex Sipiagin und Antonio Faraò sowie mit dem Olivia Trummer Trio und dem Isfar Sarabski Trio auf und tourt weltweit.

Alex Sipiagin ist ein russischer Jazztrompeter. Seit seinem 24. Lebensjahr lebt der gebürtige Russe in New York, wo er zu den absoluten Top-Spielern seines Fachs gehört. Er gewann den renommierten Louis-Armstrong-Wettbewerb des Th. Monk Institute, veröffentlichte zahlreiche Alben auf dem berüchtigten Label Criss Cross und arbeitete in Formationen mit Michael Brecker, Eric Clapton, Donny McCaslin, Seamus Blake, Dave Holland oder der Mingus Bigband.

Der aus Barcelona stammende Gianni Gagliardi “ein aufsteigender Stern in der Brooklyner Jazzszene", wie Ron Netsky von der Rochester City Newspaper schreibt. Sein einzigartiger Sound, seine Originalität und seine künstlerische Integrität haben es ihm ermöglicht, auf der ganzen Welt in den unterschiedlichsten Situationen aufzutreten, von Jazz bis Flamenco mit Größen wie Al Foster, John Clayton, Dick Oats, Gilad Hekselman oder Jordi Rossy. Er war Student am Berklee College of Music, der State University of New York, dem Conservatorium van Amsterdam und dem Conservatoire National Superior de Paris. Gianni ist der Gründer von BCN Jazz Collective, einem Label und einer Plattform für junge Komponisten, um ihre Werke zu veröffentlichen und zu fördern. Er ist gefragter Sideman und Leader; seine Aufnahmen sind von der internationalen Kritik in den höchsten Tönen gelobt worden.

Die Pianistin, Sängerin und Komponistin Olivia Trummer wird zu den interessantesten deutschen Jazzmusikerinnen ihrer Generation gezählt. Mit Tasten und Stimme formt sie ganz neue Verbindungen zwischen den Genres, wofür sie bereits vielfach ausgezeichnet wurde. Nach ihrem Studium in klassischer Musik wie auch im Jazz in Stuttgart vertiefte sie ihre Beziehung zur Musik weiter an der Manhattan School of Music. Sie ist als Bandleaderin eigener Projekte weltweit auf Konzertbühnen aktiv und seit 2016 festes Mitglied in Kurt Rosenwinkels „Caipi“ Band. Sie hinterlässt auch Eindruck als Songwriterin mit Texten, die feinfühlig zwischen Kopf und Herz vermitteln. Olivia Trummer teilte die Bühne mit Künstlern wie Eric Clapton und Bobby McFerrin, trat beim Montreux Jazz Festival, Umbria Jazz Festival, GroundUp Festival, London Jazz Fest und in Spielstätten wie Birdland NYC, Blue Note Tokyo, Shanghai & Milan, Ronnie Scott’s, Konzerthaus Wien & Berlin auf. Kollaborationen schließen die NDR Bigband, das Beethoven-Orchester Bonn, Obed Calvaire, Jimmy Cobb, Bobby McFerrin, Tim Garland, Fabrizio Bosso, Mario Biondi, Luciano Biondini mit ein

Ivars Arutyunyan ist ein musikalischer, energiegeladener, dynamischer Musiker und Schlagzeuger aus Lettland. Er hat sein ganzes Leben lang Musik studiert verbrachte mehrere Jahre in Kopenhagen und Paris, lebt jetzt in Berlin. Er ist ein aktives Mitglied der europäischen Jazz- und Improvisationsmusikszene und hat mit Künstlern wie Seamus Blake, Greg Osby, Logan Richardson, Jerry Bergonzi, Jesse van Ruller und Carsten Dahl gespielt, um nur einige zu nennen. Er ist in mehr als 30 Ländern aufgetreten und wurde mit dem Großen Lettischen Musikpreis 2022, der Besten Jazzplatte des Jahres in Lettland (2019), dem Grand Prix in Jazz Hoeilaart (BE), dem Almeria Jazz (ESP) und dem Yamaha Drum Day (LV) ausgezeichnet ) usw.

Stranded in Italy in 2022 because of the war with only a suitcase on tour, the well-known Russian jazz bassist Makar Novikov decided to take the risk of turning his back on his homeland and starting a new life in the heart of Europe. Since then, Novikov has established himself as an important part of the European scene and we are delighted to be able to present the premiere of his new, international quintet tonight, whose debut album will be released later this year. The program includes original compositions, characterized by rousing grooves and original, catchy melodies.

Makar Novikov from Moscow is one of the best known Russian jazz double bassists. An experienced accompanist and virtuoso soloist, he has performed with artists like Jimmy Cobb, Clark Terry, Jimmy Heath and James Spaulding. He is a graduate of the acknowledged Gnesins’ Russian Academy of Music. After his move to Italy in 2022, he started to work extensively with Italian musicians like Rosario Giuliani or Maurizio Giammarco, and to teach jazz bass at the Siena Jazz University. Today, he regularly appears as a member of Alex Sipiagin’s and Antonio Faraò’s projects as well as with the Olivia Trummer Trio and the Isfar Sarabski Trio, touring worldwide.

The pianist, singer and composer Olivia Trummer is considered one of the most interesting German jazz musicians of her generation. With her keys and voice she forms completely new connections between the genres, for which she has already received many awards. After studying classical music as well as jazz in Stuttgart, she further deepened her relationship with music at the Manhattan School of Music. She is active on concert stages worldwide as a bandleader of her own projects and has been a permanent member of Kurt Rosenwinkel's "Caipi" band since 2016. She also leaves an impression as a songwriter with lyrics that delicately mediate between head and heart. Ivars Arutyunyan is a musical, energetic, dynamic musician and drummer from Latvia. He has studied music all his life spent several years in Copenhagen and Paris, now lives in Berlin. He is an active member of the European jazz and improvised music scene and has played with artists such as Seamus Blake, Greg Osby, Logan Richardson, Jerry Bergonzi, Jesse van Ruller and Carsten Dahl, to name a few. He has performed in more than 30 countries and has been awarded the Latvian Music Grand Prize 2022, Best Jazz Record of the Year in Latvia (2019), Grand Prix in Jazz Hoeilaart (BE), Almeria Jazz (ESP) and Yamaha Drum Day (LV) ) etc.
