Die Band verarbeitet philosophische und spirituelle Themen durch die Sprache des Jazz: Der Name Lux Quartet wurde von der Rolle des Lichts in der Vielfalt des Lebens auf der Erde inspiriert, von der Vitalität des Sonnenstrahls bis zur Biolumineszenz der Lebewesen in den tiefsten Ozeanen - ein suggestiver Hinweis auf die Höhen und Tiefen, die die Band zu erforschen versucht.

Die Pianistin und Keyboarderin Myra Melford hat während ihres gesamten musikalischen Lebens eine kreative Vision verfolgt, die sowohl völlig unverwechselbar als auch sehr weit gefächert ist. Komposition und Improvisation gehen in ihrem Werk nahtlos und genial ineinander über, wobei die eine Seite stets die andere stärkt. Geleitet von demselben fesselnden Geist, verschmelzen unterschiedliche Idiome und Epochen - von Jazz, Blues und Weltmusik bis hin zu verschiedenen Ecken der klassischen Tradition und der Avantgarde. Als Grenzgängerin zwischen den Genres gilt sie als eine der wichtigsten Pianistinnen der Gegenwart; ihr Schaffen wurde mit einigen der renommiertesten Preisen der zeitgenössischen Musik ausgezeichnet, darunter die Guggenheim Fellowship, mehrere Auszeichnungen im Down Beat Magazine und den Alpert Award in the Arts of Music. Sie arbeitete mit den wichtigsten MusikerInnen der Gegenwartsmusik wie Dave Douglas, John Zorn, Mary Halvorson, Cuong Vu und vielen mehr.

Allison Miller ist eine US-amerikanische Schlagzeugerin, Perkussionistin und Komponistin, die Teil der New Yorker Jazzszene ist. In ihrer Jugend begann sie erst mit dem Klavierspiel, um dann zum Schlagzeug zu wechseln. Sie studierte an der West Virginia University und in New York, unter anderem bei Lenny White. Inzwischen ist sie eine der wichtigsten Drummerinnen und spielt auf zahllosen Aufnahmen im Jazzbereich, aber auch in anderen Genres. Sie arbeitete mit Mike Stern, Lonnie Smith und Jessica Lurie und ist Teil des ausschließlich weiblich besetzen Allstar-Septetts Artemis, unter anderem mit Cécile McLorin Salvant, Ingrid Jensen und Melissa Aldana. Sie ist ebenfalls eine gefragte Pädagogin und engagiert sich als Feministin für mehr Sichtbarkeit von Frauen in der Jazzwelt.

Dayna Stephens hat sich in den vergangenen Jahren zu einem der renommiertesten Saxophonisten im Modern Jazz entwickelt. Er stammt aus Kalifornien und studierte erst an der berühmt-berüchtigten Berklee School of Music, um dann ans Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz zu wechseln. Er arbeitete mit einigen der wichtigsten Musiker der älteren wie neueren Generation zusammen, darunter Kenny Barron, Eric Harland, Ambrose Akinmusire und Gerald Clayton. Er nahm außerdem unter eigenem Namen mehrere Alben auf, an denen führende Köpfe der Jazzwelt wie Brad Mehldau, Larry Grenadier, Ethan Iverson, Gretchen Parlato oder Julian Lage mitarbeiteten.

Scott Colley, der inzwischen viermal für den Grammy nominiert wurde, hat an über 200 Aufnahmen mitgewirkt, acht davon als Bandleader und Komponist. Er ist ein gefragter Sideman, der für seine Rolle in Gruppen bekannter Musiker wie John Scofield, Herbie Hancock, Chris Potter und vielen anderen ebenso bekannt ist wie für seine Mitwirkung an All-Star-Projekten wie "Still Dreaming" mit Joshua Redman, Ron Miles und Brian Blade und "Steel House" mit Edward Simon und Brian Blade.

Allison Miller is an American drummer, percussionist and composer who is part of the New York jazz scene. She began playing the piano in her youth before switching to drums. She studied at West Virginia University and in New York with Lenny White, among others. She is now one of the most important female drummers and plays on countless recordings in the jazz field, but also in other genres. She has worked with Mike Stern, Lonnie Smith and Jessica Lurie and is part of the all-female all-star septet Artemis, including Cécile McLorin Salvant, Ingrid Jensen and Melissa Aldana. She is also a sought-after teacher and a feminist committed to increasing the visibility of women in the jazz world.

In recent years, Dayna Stephens has developed into one of the most renowned saxophonists in modern jazz. Originally from California, he first studied at the notorious Berklee School of Music before transferring to the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. He has worked with some of the most important musicians of both the older and newer generations, including Kenny Barron, Eric Harland, Ambrose Akinmusire and Gerald Clayton. He has also recorded several albums under his own name with leading figures in the jazz world such as Brad Mehldau, Larry Grenadier, Ethan Iverson, Gretchen Parlato and Julian Lage.

Scott Colley, a four time Grammy nominee, has performed on over 200 recordings, eight of those as bandleader and composer. He is a first-call sideman, as renowned for his role in groups led by well-known headliners—John Scofield, Herbie Hancock, Chris Potter, many others—as he is for being part of all-star projects like “Still Dreaming” with Joshua Redman, Ron Miles, and Brian Blade; and “Steel House” with Edward Simon and Brian Blade.
