Mit diesen schönen Worten umschrieb Ernst-Behrendt Kenny Barron in seinem “Jazz-Buch”. Trefflicher kann man es kaum ausdrücken. Barrons unverwechselbarer Stil hat ihn in seiner mehr als 60jährigen Karriere in die Riege der absoluten Weltstars des Jazz gebracht. Der 1943 in Philadelphia geborene Barron spielte im Alter von 16 Jahren mit Philly Joe Jones und nach seinem Umzug nach New York mit nahezu allen Musikern von Rang und Namen. Roy Haynes, Lee Morgan, James Moody, Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Hubbard, Stanley Turrentine, Milt Jackson, Ron Carter, Stan Getz; sie alle kamen in den Genuss von Barrons unfassbar einfühlsamen wie kreativen Spiel, egal ob als inspirierender Solist oder als idealer Begleiter in allen möglichen Jazzkontexten. Kenny Barron gewann mehrmals die Kritiker- und Leserumfragen des Downbeat und der Jazztimes, sechsfacher “Best Pianist” der Jazz Journalists Association, wurde 2005 in die American Jazz Hall of Fame aufgenommen. 2010 wurde ihm mit der NEA Jazz Masters Fellowship die höchste offizielle Ehrung für Jazzmusiker in den USA verliehen.

Kiyoshi Kitagawa hat sich nicht nur als kongenialer Mitspieler in Kenny Barrons Trio einen Namen gemacht. Der in Japan geborene, inzwischen aber seit langer Zeit in Brooklyn lebende Kontrabassist spielte im Laufe seiner Karriere mit vielen Größen der Jazzszene. Nachdem er sich zuerst mit der Gitarre auseinander setzte, wechselte er mit 19 Jahren zum Kontrabass und arbeitete in den 1980er Jahren mit vielen namhaften japanischen Musikern, bevor es ihn in die vereinigten Staaten zog. Dort arbeitete er unter anderem mit Brian Blade, Kenny Garrett, Jimmy Heath, Danny Grissett oder Regina Carter.

Jonathan Blake ist ein US-amerikanischer Jazz-Schlagzeuger und Komponist. Er hat mit vielen Jazzgrößen zusammengearbeitet, darunter Tom Harrell, Kenny Barron, David Sánchez, Don Byron, Oliver Lake, Randy Brecker, und viele weitere. Blake ist auch bekannt für seine Arbeit als Mitglied im Omer Avital Quintett und im Ravi Coltrane Quartet. In seinen eigenen Projekten hat Blake eine Reihe von hochkarätigen Musikern wie Chris Potter, Mark Turner, Avishai Cohen und Ben Street zusammengebracht. Barron's unmistakable style has brought him into the ranks of the absolute world stars of jazz in his more than 60-year career. Born in Philadelphia in 1943, Barron played with Philly Joe Jones at the age of 16 and, after moving to New York, with virtually every musician of note. In 2010, he was awarded the NEA Jazz Masters Fellowship, the highest official honor for jazz musicians in the United States.

Kiyoshi Kitagawa has made a name for himself not only as a congenial player in Kenny Barron's trio. Born in Japan but now a longtime Brooklyn resident, the double bassist has played with many of the jazz scene's greats throughout his career. After first tackling the guitar, he switched to the double bass at age 19 and worked with many notable Japanese musicians in the 1980s before moving to the United States. There he worked with Brian Blade, Kenny Garrett, Jimmy Heath, Danny Grissett or Regina Carter, among others.

Jonathan Blake is an American jazz drummer and composer. He has collaborated with many jazz greats, including Tom Harrell, Kenny Barron, David Sánchez, Don Byron, Oliver Lake, Randy Brecker, and many others. Blake is also known for his work as a member of the Omer Avital Quintet and the Ravi Coltrane Quartet. In his own projects, Blake has brought together a number of high profile musicians including Chris Potter, Mark Turner, Avishai Cohen, and Ben Street. His playing is characterized by energy and creativity, and he is highly regarded by critics and audiences alike.
