Berlin ist eine DER Jazzmetropolen weltweit, und die Jazzszene so international und heterogen, wie es nur geht. Die Vielfalt und Unterschiedlichkeit der Akteur*innen machen jedes Konzert zu einem einzigartigen Erlebnis. Egal, ob eher traditionsorientiert oder avantgardistisch-experimentell: im Jazz begegnen sich alle auf Augenhöhe und finden in der Improvisation zueinander. Besonders intensiv werden diese Begegnungen in unserer neuen Reihe Jazz Encounters erlebbar!

Winnie Brückner ist Sängerin, Komponistin und Arrangeurin. Sie studierte Jazz-Gesang in Weimar und Luzern und ist Absolventin des Studiengangs am Lichtenberger® Institut für angewandte Stimmphysiologie. Sie ist Gründerin und künstlerische Leiterin des Vokalquartetts niniwe, das zahlreiche Preise bei internationalen A-cappella-Wettbewerben (u.a. in Graz, Tampere, Taipei und Aarhus) gewonnen hat und mit dem sie seit nunmehr über 20 Jahren international auf der Bühne steht. Als Sängerin ist sie nicht nur im a cappella Bereich, sondern auch als Solistin in verschiedensten Bands und Projekten aus dem Bereich des Jazz und der Alten Musik tätig. Neben ihren eigenen Projekten VIND (Barock Crossover) und dem Duo Wandermüd mit der Cellistin Susanne Paul arbeitete sie bereits mit zahlreichen Größen aus dem Bereich des Jazz und der E-Musik zusammen, u.a. mit Frank Möbus, Daniel Erdmann, Stefan Schultze, Max Andrzejewski, Nicolai Thaerichen sowie mit dem Sinfonieorchester Aachen, Concerto Stella Matutina, Vox Nostra und dem Vocalconsort Berlin.

Geboren 1988, studierte Fabiana Striffler Jazz und klassische Geige an der Universität der Künste und der Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin und teilte bereits in jungen Jahren Bühnen und Studios mit namhaften Musikern aus der Jazz-, Klassik- und Popszene. Ihr Debütalbum Mahagoni wurde vom Deutschlandfunk als „Bestes Album“ des Jahres nominiert. Von 2013 bis 2018 war sie Stipendiatin des Yehudi Menuhin Vereines. Sie bespielte Spielstätten wie die Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Konzerthaus Berlin, Filharmonie Brno CZ, Le Palais des Congrès de Paris FR, Volksbühne Berlin, Sunset Paris FR, A-Trane Berlin, Jazz Dock Prague, das Fusion-Festival und mehr. Sie tourte weltweit in über 20 Ländern, kollaborierte in über 40 Studioproduktionen und brillierte in einer Reihe von Radio-, und Theater-, und Opern-Produktionen.

Daniel Erdmann wurde 1973 in Wolfsburg geboren. Er spielt seit 1983 Saxophon und studierte u.a. bei Gebhard Ullmann an der Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler. Er nahm Alben für verschiedene Labels auf, u.a. BMC, ENJA, ACT, LABEL BLEU, INTAKT und spielt weltweit Konzerte mit Bands und Musikern wie Das Kapital, Vincent Courtois, Aki Takase, Carlos Bica, Heinz Sauer, Samuel Rohrer, Henri Texier. 2014 gründete er die deutsch-französische Compagnie DAS ATELIER und seine neue Band Daniel Erdmann´s Velvet Revolution mit Théo Ceccaldi und Jim Hart. Das erste Album der Band bei BMC Records wurde mit dem Jahrespreis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik und einem Echo Jazz ausgezeichnet. Weitere Auszeichnungen waren 2020 der SWR-Jazzpreis und 2021 der deutsche Jazzpreis für Holzbläser.

Urs Johnen wurde in Tübingen geboren, ist im Schwarzwald aufgewachsen und ist heute in Berlin und auf Mallorca zuhause. Er studierte Kontrabass in Stuttgart und in Weimar, erhielt Unterricht u.a. bei Horst-Dieter Wenkel, Ulrich Lau, Manfred Bründl, Frank Möbus, Jo Thönes, Klaus Dusek sowie Patrick Bopp und war Stipendiat der Thüringer Orchesterakademie als Kontrabassist bei den Jenaer Philharmonikern. Frühe Erfahrungen in Klassikensembles wie der Jeunesse Musicale Franco-Allemande, der Jungen Deutschen Philharmonie oder der Philharmonie der Nationen einerseits und Jazzensembles wie dem Landesjugendjazzorchester Baden-Württemberg andererseits prägten sein Selbstverständnis als musikalischer Brückenbauer und Grenzgänger. Er ist im Jazz-, Pop- und Klassikbereich aktiv und konzertierte mit Formationen von der Alten bis zur Zeitgenössischen Musik sowie vom Singer-Songwriter-Pop bis zum Avantgardejazz im In- und Ausland.

She is the founder and artistic director of the vocal quartet niniwe, which has won numerous prizes at international a cappella competitions (including in Graz, Tampere, Taipei and Aarhus) and with which she has been performing internationally for over 20 years. As a singer, she is not only active in the a cappella field, but also as a soloist in various bands and projects in the field of jazz and early music. In addition to her own projects VIND (Baroque Crossover) and the duo Wandermüd with cellist Susanne Paul, she has already worked with numerous greats from the fields of jazz and serious music, including Frank Möbus, Daniel Erdmann, Stefan Schultze, Max Andrzejewski, Nicolai Thaerichen and the Aachen Symphony Orchestra, Concerto Stella Matutina, Vox Nostra and the Vocalconsort Berlin.

He recorded albums for various labels, including BMC, ENJA, ACT, LABEL BLEU, INTAKT and plays concerts worldwide with bands and musicians such as Das Kapital, Vincent Courtois, Aki Takase, Carlos Bica, Heinz Sauer, Samuel Rohrer, Henri Texier. In 2014 he founded the German-French company DAS ATELIER and his new band Daniel Erdmann's Velvet Revolution with Théo Ceccaldi and Jim Hart. The band's first album on BMC Records won the German Record Critics' Annual Award and an Echo Jazz. Other awards included the SWR Jazz Prize in 2020 and the German Jazz Prize for Woodwinds in 2021.

Urs Johnen was born in Tübingen in 1982, grew up in Calw in the Black Forest and now also lives in Berlin and in Andratx, Mallorca. He studied double bass in Stuttgart and in Weimar, received lessons from Horst-Dieter Wenkel, Ulrich Lau, Manfred Bründl, Frank Möbus, Jo Thönes, Klaus Dusek as well as Patrick Bopp and was a scholarship holder of the Thuringian Orchestra Academy as a double bass player with the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra. Early experiences in classical ensembles such as the Jeunesse Musicale Franco-Allemande, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie or the Philharmonie der Nationen on the one hand and jazz ensembles such as the Landesjugendjazzorchester Baden-Württemberg on the other hand shaped his self-image as a musical bridge builder and border crosser. He is active in jazz, pop and classical music and has performed with formations ranging from early to contemporary music as well as from singer-songwriter pop to avant-garde jazz in Germany and abroad.
