Sundays at the Zig Zag is the closest you will get to the atmosphere, energy and ambience of the New York Jazz revolution taking place in the 30´s- 50´s. The evening features mainly young, talented jazz musicians who have contributed to the jazz boom in Berlin over the past decade. It’s intended for those of you who can appreciate the rare and fine quality of purely acoustic and unamplified music. You'll feel like you're sharing the stage with musicians who include some of the city's best and finest award-winning young talents!
Die vielleicht größte Sängerin, die je gelebt hat, hat nur 44 Jahre lang gesungen und konnte nicht einmal Noten lesen. Und doch ist der Einfluss, den sie hatte, unermesslich. Sie beeinflusste Generationen von Musikerinnen und Musikern, die nach ihr kamen, aber ihre Fähigkeit, Trauer mit Freude zu verbinden, bleibt unvergleichlich. Mit ihrer unendlich entspannten Phrasierung und ihrer unverwechselbaren Stimme wurde sie zu einem der größten Stars ihrer Zeit und bleibt ein Gigant des Jazz.
Grund genug also, der Lady Day einen Abend im Zig Zag Jazz Club zu widmen. Eine Band, bestehend aus fünf der besten jungen Jazzmusikerinnen und -musiker Berlins, wird dich auf eine Reise durch einige von Billies Lieblingsstücken mitnehmen.
The perhaps greatest singer who ever lived, only did so for 44 years and couldn’t even read music. And yet, the impact she made is immeasurable. She influenced generations of musicians who came after, but her ability to marry sorrow with joy remains unparalleled. With her infinitely relaxed phrasing and her distinctive voice, she became one of the biggest stars of her time and remains a Giant of Jazz.
Reason enough then, to dedicate an evening to Lady Day in Zig Zag Jazz Club. A band consisting of five of Berlin’s finest young Jazz musicians will pay tribute to her style and her repertoire.
ENTRANCE FEES
One of the reasons that makes this evening so unique is that it is the first and only jazz club in the world that manages to finance world class events through a crowd funding concept. How do we do it? Its quite simple… during the break of the concert we make an announcement regarding the collection for the evening. We inform our customers that a fee of around 15€ per person will allow us to fairly compensate the musicians. Some people give more and some give less… and that´s ok… we ´ve already successfully promoted hundreds of concerts like this!!!
