Christian Willisohn is one of the outstanding figures on today's music scene.
No matter where he performs, critics and audiences alike applaud his supreme musicianship, his creativity and his technical virtuosity.
In his own compositions, pianist and singer Christian Willisohn goes back to the roots of the blues, taking his listeners on a trip from the basics to the myriad facets of the music.
His musical career began in 1980 in the Munich clubs; from the mid-eighties onward he toured across Europe and the USA with blues greats like Zora Young, Aron Burton, Vince Weber, Lousiana Red and many others. Festival appearances including Montreux, Ascona, Munich, Berlin, Frankfurt, Burghausen, Vienna, Hamburg, Lyons, Paris, Barcelona, New York, Chicago, New Orleans, Sydney, and Auckland assured him of an impressive international following.
1991 saw the release of his critically-acclaimed first solo CD, Boogie Woogie And Some Blues, recorded in Munich.
The same year, Christian and his good friend Lillian Boutté recorded their first duo CD, Lipstick Traces, at Allen Toussaint's legendary Sea Saint Studios in New Orleans, using Fats Domino's rhythm section. The ongoing success of this recording has secured the duo a multitude of tour dates and television appearances in Europe and the States.
In 1993, Christian and Dutch saxophone player Boris Vanderlek recorded a live CD, Blues News, which was presented to the public in New York City.
In 1995, the Christian Willisohn Trio released an album entitled Blues On The World. In the same year, Christian published his first book of sheet music, The Real Blues'n Boogie Book, written in collaboration with Professor Herbert Wiedemann.
The Christian Willisohn Band's CD Heart Broken Man followed suit in 1996.
In 1997, Christian and Rainer Schmidt founded the ART BY HEART label, for which he produced his second duo album with Lillian Boutté, Come Together.
In 2000, Christian Willisohn recorded Live at Marians in Bern/Switzerland.
His first talking book together with the famous author Jacques Berndorf was released in 2003, called “Otto Krause has the Blues”.
In 2004, Christian Willisohn recorded his first SACD in the “Crear Studios” in the Scottish Highlands, produced by Stockfish Records.
A big tour followed in 2005, organized by Bowers & Wilkins, using their new High End Speakers “Nautilus 801”.
“The Hague Jazz Festival” brought back together the duo Christian Willisohn / Boris Vanderlek in May 2007, the concert in Den Haag was recorded live for a DVD production.
In 2008 Christian could be heard on board of the famous sailing ship “Sea Cloud”, where he gave concerts on the route from Hamburg to St. Petersburg. In spring 2009 he is the musical companion of the road show for the new “Sea Cloud Hussar” touring Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Great Britain, and he does another concert tour on board “Sea Cloud II” in
 
autumn 2009 leading him from Napels to Venice via Sicily and Croatia. In October he is part of the piano festival in Barcelona.
In the same year, the second talking book together with Jacques Berndorf, “Samira’s Blues”, was released (words: Jacques Berndorf, music: Christian Willisohn).
In January 2010 a tour on the occasion of his 30th anniversary on stage begins, in autumn 2010 the band “Christian Willisohn’s Southern Spirit” appears in a new instrumentation: Boris Van der Lek (sax), Titus Vollmer (guitar), Peter Kraus (drums) and Matthias Engelhardt (bass).
In spring 2011 the new CD together with Boris Van der Lek “Back in the Limelight” was released, in the end of the year the DVD “30 years of Blues” appears, the recording of a live concert of Christian Willisohn’s anniversary tour.
In the end of 2011 a new talking book together with Jacques Berndorf will be produced.
3 new albums are planned for 2012: “Christian Willisohn solo”, “Christian Willisohn – Best Of”, and under the name of a new series by Christian Willisohn and Jacques Berndorf called “Portraits” a new talking book about the life of Louis Armstrong.

 

Christian Willisohn zählt heute zu den herausragenden Persönlichkeiten der Musikszene.
Wo immer er auftritt, werden ihm von Presse und Publikum höchste Musikalität, Kreativität und eine überlegene Virtuosität bescheinigt.
Der Pianist und Sänger geht mit seinen Kompositionen von den ursprünglichen Wurzeln des Blues aus und führt seine Zuhörer vom Grundgedanken zu den unzähligen Facetten dieser Musik. Christian Willisohns musikalische Karriere begann 1980 in der Münchner Clubszene. Seitdem begeistert er sein Publikum in Konzertsälen und Clubs rund um den Globus.
Auf Festivals wie Montreux, Den Haag, Ascona, Nyon, Luzern, Kopenhagen, Breda, Burghausen, Wien, München, Hamburg, Lyon, Paris, Barcelona, Zypern, New York, Chicago, New Orleans, Sydney, Auckland, etc. erspielte er sich eine große Fangemeinde.
Sein musikalischer Stil wurde besonders geprägt durch längere Aufenthalte in den USA, im Besonderen in Chicago und New Orleans – unüberhörbar in jedem seiner Konzerte.
