Paco Séry und Linley Marthe, zwei jahrelange Mitglieder des legendären Zawinul Syndicate treffen auf zwei der führenden Berliner Musiker, Ben Kraef und Uri Gincel! Erwarten Sie einen Abend voller energiegeladener Jazz-Fusion und Funk mit knallharten Grooves, virtuosestem Bassspiel und unvorhersehbaren und einfallsreichen Soli.

Im Alter von neun Jahren erlernte Paco Séry autodidaktisch das Spielen auf einem selbst gebauten Schlagzeug. 1978, schon als lokale Berühmtheit, traf er Eddy Louiss, der ihn nach Europa mitnahm. Die Zusammenarbeit mit Louiss dauerte sieben Jahre. Außerdem spielte er zwei Jahre mit Nina Simone. Nach einer Jamsession mit Jaco Pastorius 1985 in Paris heuerte ihn dieser für seine Europatournee an. Zwischen 1995 und 2007 spielte er mit Joe Zawinuls Band The Zawinul Syndicate. Zawinul sagte über ihn: „Der beste Schlagzeuger, den ich je gehört oder mit dem ich gespielt habe, und ich habe mit allen gespielt.“ Séry arbeitete u. a. mit folgenden Künstlern zusammen: Monty Alexander, Mino Cinelu, Dee Dee Bridgewater, André Ceccarelli, Billy Cobham, Michel Colombier, Manu Dibango, Eddie Gomez, Jean-Michel Jarre, Salif Keïta, Éric Le Lann, Didier Lockwood, Ray Lema, Bernard Lubat, Claude Nougaro, Michel Portal, Mike Stern, Carlos Santana, Wayne Shorter und Henri Salvador.

Auf Mauritius brachte Linley Marthe sich als Autodidakt Bassgitarre, Kontrabass und Piano bei. Er arbeitete als Musiker und Musikproduzent und zog nach einer Zusammenarbeit mit François Jeanneau 1993 nach Paris, wo er sich einer akademischen Ausbildung unterzog und bis heute lebt.
Marthe gilt als einer der originellsten und virtuosesten E-Bassisten der Gegenwart. Er spielte zunächst im African Project von Philippe Sellam/Gilles Renne und war ab 2003 bei Joe Zawinul tätig. Weiterhin spielte er mit Cheb Mami, Mino Cinelu, Dave Liebman, Andy Emler, Trilok Gurtu, Didier Lockwood, Richard Galliano, Lionel & Stéphane Belmondo, Sylvain Beuf, Flavio Boltro, Nguyên Lê, Michel Portal, Baptiste Trotignon, Louis Winsberg, Francis Lassus, Kadero Ray, Chander Sardjoe und Hans Lüdemann. Er war weiterhin an Platteneinspielungen von Piano-Rising Star Grégory Privat beteiligt und ist ab Herbst 2024 neuer Hauptfachdozent an der Zürcher Musikhochschule.

Ben Kraef ist ein deutsch-montenegrinischer Saxophonist und Komponist, der in Berlin lebt. Ben schloss sein Studium an der Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin ab und erwarb 2009 einen Master of Arts am City College of New York, wo er 2008 mit dem Billie-Stoller-Stipendium für einen herausragenden Wissenschaftler und Musiker ausgezeichnet wurde. Die Liste der international renommierten Musiker mit denen Ben auftrat und aufnahm, umfasst Koryphäen wie Lalo Schifrin, Fred Hersch, Pee Wee Ellis und Till Brönner sowie Popgruppen wie "Wir Sind Helden" und die Radio-Bigbands von HR und WDR.

Uri Gincel ist einer der gefragtesten und angesehensten Jazzpianisten in Berlin. Gincels Stil ist stark in der Tradition verwurzelt, aber er versteht es, den Jazz in die Moderne zu bringen. Sein Spiel ist dynamisch, lyrisch und vor allem voller Energie und Kraft! Der in Tel Aviv geborene Gincel kam 2009 nach Berlin und wurde schnell zu einem einflussreichen Teil der Jazzszene. Uri tourte mit vielen Projekten um die Welt, darunter das "Uri Gincel Trio" und "Bonaparte", und studierte bei bedeutenden Musikern wie Arnie Lawrence und Walter Blending Jr.

Paco Séry and Linley Marthe, two longtime members of the legendary Zawinul Syndicate meet two of Berlin's leading musicians, Ben Kraef and Uri Gincel! Expect an evening of energetic jazz fusion and funk with hard-hitting grooves, virtuoso bass playing and unpredictable and inventive solos.

At the age of nine, Paco Séry learned to play self-taught on a self-built drum kit. In 1978, already a local celebrity, he met Eddy Louiss, who took him to Europe. The collaboration with Louiss lasted seven years. He also played with Nina Simone for two years. After a jam session with Jaco Pastorius in Paris in 1985, Pastorius hired him for his European tour. Between 1995 and 2007 he played with Joe Zawinul's band The Zawinul Syndicate. Zawinul said of him: “The best drummer I've ever heard or played with, and I've played with all of them.” Séry has worked with the following artists, among others: Monty Alexander, Mino Cinelu, Dee Dee Bridgewater, André Ceccarelli, Billy Cobham, Michel Colombier, Manu Dibango, Eddie Gomez, Jean-Michel Jarre, Salif Keïta, Éric Le Lann, Didier Lockwood, Ray Lema, Bernard Lubat, Claude Nougaro, Michel Portal, Mike Stern, Carlos Santana, Wayne Shorter and Henri Salvador.

In Mauritius, Linley Marthe taught himself bass guitar, double bass and piano as a self-taught musician. He worked as a musician and music producer and, after a collaboration with François Jeanneau, moved to Paris in 1993, where he underwent academic training and still lives today.Marthe is regarded as one of the most original and virtuoso electric bassists of our time. He first played in Philippe Sellam/Gilles Renne's African Project and was active with Joe Zawinul from 2003. He has also played with Cheb Mami, Mino Cinelu, Dave Liebman, Andy Emler, Trilok Gurtu, Didier Lockwood, Richard Galliano, Lionel & Stéphane Belmondo, Sylvain Beuf, Flavio Boltro, Nguyên Lê, Michel Portal, Baptiste Trotignon, Louis Winsberg, Francis Lassus, Kadero Ray, Chander Sardjoe and Hans Lüdemann. He was also involved in recordings by piano rising star Grégory Privat.

Ben Kraef is a German-Montenegrin saxophonist and composer based in Berlin. Ben graduated from the University of Music “Hanns Eisler”, Berlin and obtained a Master of Arts from The City College of New York in 2009 where he was also awarded the Billie Stoller Scholarship to an outstanding scholar and musician in 2008. The list of internationally renowned musicians Ben has been performing and recording with includes luminaries Lalo Schifrin, Fred Hersch, Pee Wee Ellis and Till Brönner as well as pop groups such as „Wir Sind Helden” and the radio big bands of HR and WDR.

Uri Gincel is one of the most in demand and respected Jazz pianists in Berlin. Gincel´s style can be described as heavily rooted in tradition but with sensibility and understanding of bringing jazz into the modern age. His playing is dynamic, lyrical and above full of energy and power! Born in Tel-Aviv, Gincel came to Berlin in 2009 and quickly became an influential part of the Jazz scene, Uri toured the world with many projects, including "Uri Gincel Trio” and “Bonaparte” and studied under some major musicians as Arnie Lawrence and Walter Blending Jr.
