Er hat sich einen einzigartigen Weg als einflussreiche, produktive und wandelbare Persönlichkeit in der Musik des 21. Jahrhunderts gebahnt. Als Komponist und Pianist, der in verschiedenen musikalischen Sphären aktiv ist, hat Iyer in den letzten fünfundzwanzig Jahren ein durchgehend innovatives und emotional ansprechendes Werk geschaffen. Dies hat ihm einen Platz als einer der führenden Musikschaffenden seiner Generation eingebracht.

Iyer wurde als Sohn indischer Einwanderer in Albany, New York geboren und erhielt in frühesten Jahren Violin- und Klavierunterricht. Nach einem abgeschlossenen Physikstudium studierte er in Kalifornien Musik, wo er sogar mit einer Arbeit über westafrikanische und afroamerikanische Musik promovierte. Schon in Studienzeiten arbeitete er mit dem Visionär Steve Coleman und anderen prägenden Figuren der Szene. Spätestens seit den 2000er Jahren ist er aus der Riege der international führenden Jazzmusiker nicht mehr wegzudenken und produzierte wegweisende Alben für die renommierten Labels ACT und ECM, wurde mehrfach vom Downbeat als Jazz Artist of the Year ausgezeichnet und ist Träger der MacArthur Fellowship, der United States Artists Fellowship sowie einer Grammy-Nominierung. Er arbeitete mit MusikerInnen wie Reggie Workman, Ambrose Akinmusire, Marcus Gilmore, Craig Taborn, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Linda Oh, Mike Ladd und vielen mehr zusammen und ist neben seiner Tätigkeit als Pianist auch als Komponist für verschiedene Ensembles im Bereich kammermusikalischer Werke tätig.

Nick Dunston, seit 2020 Wahl-Berliner, hat in seiner noch jungen Karriere schon das erreicht, worauf andere Spieler sehr lange hinarbeiten. Schon als Jugendlicher wurde der Multiinstrumentalist für sein Bassspiel ausgezeichnet und spielte in dieser Zeit unter anderem mit Bruce Barth. Er studierte an der New School und beschäftigte sich dort und in seiner weiteren Laufbahn nicht nur mit Jazz, sondern auch mit zeitgenössischer Improvisationsmusik. Neben der Arbeit an seinen eigenen Projekten begleitete er auch namhafte MusikerInnen wie Mary Halvorson, Jeff Tain Watts, Vijay Iyer und Marc Ribot.

Jeremy Dutton ist einer der derzeit aufregensten und dynamischsten Drummer der derzeitigen Jazzwelt. Der in Houston geborene Virtuose ist seit einigen Jahren fester Bestandteil der Szene und wirkte an einigen bahnbrechenden neuen Ensembles und Aufnahmen mit, darunter die auf Blue Note erschienenen Alben des Vibraphonisten Joel Ross. Weitere Zusammenarbeiten entstanden mit KünstlerInnen wie Billy Hart, Ambrose Akinmusire, Gerald Glayton, Melanie Charles, Melissa Aldana, Mike Moreno, Tigran Hamasyan, Immanuel Wilkins und Marquis Hill.

A composer and pianist active across multiple musical communities, Iyer has created a consistently innovative, emotionally resonant body of work over the last twenty-five years, earning him a place as one of the leading music-makers of his generation. 

Iyer was born in Albany, New York, to Indian immigrant parents and received violin and piano lessons at an early age. After completing a degree in physics, he went on to study music in California, where he earned a Ph.D. with a dissertation on West African and African American music. During his studies, he collaborated with visionary artist Steve Coleman and other influential figures in the music scene. By the 2000s, he had firmly established himself as one of the leading international jazz musicians, producing groundbreaking albums for the renowned labels ACT and ECM. He has been repeatedly named Jazz Artist of the Year by DownBeat, and is a recipient of the MacArthur Fellowship, the United States Artists Fellowship, as well as a Grammy nomination. Iyer has worked with musicians such as Reggie Workman, Ambrose Akinmusire, Marcus Gilmore, Craig Taborn, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Linda Oh, Mike Ladd, and many others. In addition to his work as a pianist, he is also a composer for various ensembles, focusing on chamber music compositions.

Nick Dunston, a Berliner by choice since 2020, has already achieved in his still young career what other players have been working towards for a very long time. Already as a teenager, the multi-instrumentalist was awarded for his bass playing and played with Bruce Barth, among others, during this time. He studied at the New School and was involved there and in his further career not only with jazz, but also with contemporary improvised music. In addition to working on his own projects, he has also accompanied renowned musicians such as Mary Halvorson, Jeff Tain Watts, Vijay Iyer and Marc Ribot.

Jeremy Dutton is one of the most exciting and dynamic drummers in today's jazz world. Born in Houston, this virtuoso has been a key figure in the jazz scene for several years and has contributed to several groundbreaking new ensembles and recordings, including the Blue Note albums by vibraphonist Joel Ross.
