Der Zig Zag-Jazzclub ist stolz darauf unsere neue Konzertreihe in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Jazz-Institut Berlin (JIB) fortzuführen, die musikalischen Talenten der internationalen Szene eine Bühne bieten wird. Das Jazz-Institut Berlin gilt deutschlandweit wie auch international als eine der renommiertesten Ausbildungsstätten für Jazz und zieht viele Talente aus der ganzen Welt an. Im Theo Altmann Trio treffen drei talentierte und überaus umtriebige Musiker aufeinander. Durch die kompakte Formation des Trios entwickelt sich ein großer Rahmen für transparente kammermusikalische Improvisation, welche an die Tradition des Jazz anknüpft. Das Hauptaugenmerk liegt auf Eigenkompositionen und kollektiver Improvisation. Zudem erarbeitet das Trio Standards und Originals der Jazzhistorie. Direkte Interaktion miteinander und die Schaffung eines Ensembleklangs stehen im Vordergrund. 

Das australische Duo Claire Cross & Harry Cook gibt sein Debüt in Berlin mit seinem aktuellen Album "Dialect". Bei diesem Auftritt spielt das Duo ein Repertoire an Originalmusik aus ihrem Album, das sehr introspektiv, intim und minimalistisch ist. Ursprünglich in der gemeinsamen Isolation Ende 2020 konzipiert, wurde das Projekt von Cross und Cook in Bundanon im ländlichen New South Wales, Australien, als Teil eines Artist-in-Residence-Programms 2022 weiterentwickelt. Das Album enthält Stücke, die von der australischen Wildnis inspiriert sind, Meditationen über Reisen und Isolation sowie introspektive Erkundungen der persönlichen und musikalischen Beziehung des Paares. Das Album ist das Ergebnis einer intimen Zeit, die die beiden Musiker allein in ihrer Hütte im wunderschönen, abgelegenen Bundanon verbracht haben, wobei sie sich intensiv mit dem Instrument des anderen auseinandergesetzt haben: wie es konstruiert ist, welche Formen es annehmen kann, und wie es ohne Vorurteile erforscht werden kann. Es ist auch ein Eingeständnis der sich verändernden Natur des Jazz selbst, der fließenden Natur von Genrebezeichnungen und des reichen Potenzials für gegenseitige Inspiration.

The Jazz Institute Berlin is considered one of the most prestigious jazz training institutions in Germany as well as internationally, attracting many of the most gifted talents from around the world. The Theo Altmann Trio brings together three talented and extremely energetic musicians. The compact formation of the trio creates a large framework for transparent chamber music improvisation that draws on the jazz tradition. The main focus is on original compositions and collective improvisation. The trio also works on standards and originals from jazz history. Direct interaction with each other and the creation of an ensemble sound are in the foreground.

Australian duo Claire Cross & Harry Cook make their debut in Berlin with their latest album 'Dialect'. For this performance the duo perform a repertoire of original music featured from their album that is deeply introspective, intimate and minimalist. Initially conceived in the shared isolation of late 2020, the project was further developed by Cross and Cook at Bundanon in rural New South Wales, Australia as part of a 2022 Artist in Residence program. The album includes pieces inspired by the Australian wilderness, meditations on travel and isolation, and introspective explorations of the couple’s own personal and musical relationship. The album is the fruit of intimate time spent alone together in the musicians’ cottage in beautiful, remote Bundanon, each reflecting deeply on the other’s instrument: how it is designed, the shapes it can make, exploring what is possible without preconceptions. It is also an acknowledgement of the changing nature of jazz itself, of the fluid nature of genre labels and the rich potential for cross-pollination.
