Im Ensemble „SongScapes“ haben sich vier kreative Köpfe der deutschen Jazzszene zusammengefunden. Gemeinsam erforschen die vier neue musikalische Wege und nennen ihr gemeinsames Programm „SongScapes“ - das sind Song-Landschaften auf einer Landkarte die man im Modern Jazz verorten kann, die sich dann aber weitläufig erstreckt in die Gebiete von Weltmusik und lyrischem Lied, in die Weiten der Improvisation bis hinein in die Ebenen flächiger Klang-Installationen.

Esther Kaiser ist eine der stilprägenden Sängerinnen der deutschen Szene. Seit Jahren etabliert sie sich als kreative und innovative Musikerin, die Jazz. Improvisation und andere Genres spielend leicht miteinander verbindet. Sie studierte bis 2002 am Jazz-Institut Berlin und war während des Studiums Sängerin im BuJazzO. In ihrer Karriere arbeitete sie mit nationalen wie internationalen Größen zusammen, darunter sind Sebastian Studnitzky, Céline Rudolph, Kim Nazarian zu nennen. Seit 2014 ist sie Professorin für Gesang an der Hochschule für Musik in Dresden.

Tilmann Dehnhard studierte Querflöte und Saxophon an der UdK Berlin, Filmmusikkomposition an der HFF Babelsberg. Er ist international als konzertierender Musiker und Dozent tätig und seine Arbeit gipfelte in CD-Produktionen und Konzerten mit Sam Rivers, Steve Lacey, Evan Parker, Alexander v. Schlippenbach, Till Brönner, Julia Hülsmann und anderen. Er war Gastprofessor an mehreren renommierten Musikinstituten, ist Autor mehrerer Lehrwerke für Jazzflöte und hält inzwischen einen Lehrauftrag an der UdK Berlin.

Alexander Wienand ist ein Pianist und Komponist, für den die Welten des Jazz und der sogenannten ernsten Musik untrennbar zum Inspirationsfeld gehören. Er ist erster Preisträger mehrerer Klavierwettbewerbe, darunter, z.B. Steinway Wettbewerb Berlin. Seine interdisziplinären Projekte sind international auf Festivals vertreten, z.B. Salzburger Festspiele oder Jazzahead Bremen. Seine Arbeit wurde unter Anderem gefördert durch die deutsche Stiftung Musikleben, den bayrischen Kunstförderpreis, das Kultursekretariat NRW und das Land Baden Würtemberg. Wienand lebt seit 2010 in Berlin und arbeitet dort als Komponist, Pianist und Dozent für Klavier, Jazzklavier und Jazzdidaktik an der Universität der Künste.

Die griechisch-deutsche Bassistin Athina Kontou beschäftigt sich in ihrem Schaffen mit der Musikkultur ihrer griechischen Heimat um sie mit der Klangsprache des zeitgenössischen Jazz zu verbinden. Mit ihrem Debütalbum „Mother“ vor einigen Monaten war sie direkt für den Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik und für den Deutschen Jazzpreis nominiert.

Four creative minds from the German jazz scene have come together in the "SongScapes" ensemble. Together, the four explore new musical paths and call their joint program "SongScapes" - these are song landscapes on a map that can be located in modern jazz, but which then extends far into the areas of world music and lyrical song, into the expanses of improvisation and into the planes of flat sound installations.

Esther Kaiser is one of the style-defining singers of the German scene. For years she has established herself as a creative and innovative musician who combines jazz. Improvisation and other genres with ease. She studied at the Jazz Institute Berlin until 2002 and was a singer in the BuJazzO during her studies. In her career she has worked with national and international greats, among them Sebastian Studnitzky, Céline Rudolph, Kim Nazarian. Since 2014 she is professor of voice at the Dresden University of Music.

Tilmann Dehnhard studied flute and saxophone at the UdK Berlin and film music composition at the HFF Babelsberg. He is internationally active as a concert performer and lecturer and his work has culminated in CD productions and concerts with Sam Rivers, Steve Lacey, Evan Parker, Alexander v. Schlippenbach, Till Brönner, Julia Hülsmann and others. He has been a guest professor at several renowned music institutes, is the author of several textbooks for jazz flute and now holds a teaching position at the Berlin University of the Arts.

Alexander Wienand is a pianist and composer for whom the worlds of jazz and so-called serious music are inseparable fields of inspiration. He is first prize winner of several piano competitions, including, e.g. Steinway Competition Berlin. His interdisciplinary projects are represented internationally at festivals, e.g. Salzburger Festspiele or Jazzahead Bremen. His work has been supported by, among others, the German Foundation for Musical Life, the Bavarian Art Promotion Prize, the Kultursekretariat NRW and the State of Baden Würtemberg. Wienand has been living in Berlin since 2010 and works there as a composer, pianist and lecturer for piano, jazz piano and jazz didactics at the University of the Arts.

In her work, the Greek-German bassist Athina Kontou explores the musical culture of her Greek homeland in order to combine it with the sound language of contemporary jazz. With her debut album "Mother" a few months ago, she was directly nominated for the German Record Critics' Award and the German Jazz Award.
