Paulo Morello’s Brazil-Quintett präsentiert 2022 das Album Sambop. Dieser Name ist Programm - steckt doch in der Verschmelzung zweier Begriffe, von denen der eine für die Kernstilistik des modernen Jazz und der andere für die wichtigste Form und den prägendsten Rhythmus der brasilianischen Musik steht:
Samba und Bop treffen nicht nur aufeinander, Morello und seine vier Mitmusiker verschmelzen jazzigen Bop und die Vielfalt der brasilianischen Musik zu etwas Ganzem, zu etwas Schönem, zu etwas Neuem.
Und das mit einer selbstverständlich virtuosen, freudig-flüssigen Lockerheit des Musizierens, die nur jenen gelingt, die auf dem Instrument und den Genres ihrer Wahl absolute Könner sind.
Paulo Morello hat für das Konzert im ZigZag eine erlesene Band zusammen gestellt: der Berliner Saxophon-Virtuose Peter Weniger und der Schweizer Vibraphon-Shooting-Star Lucas Dorado treffen hier auf die groovende brasilianische Rhythmusgruppe mit Eduardo “Dudu” Penz am E-Bass und Mauro Martins am Schlagzeug.

Paulo Morello ist einer der führenden Jazzgitarristen Europas. International bekannt wurde er mit dem Bossa Nova-Legends Projekt. Zusammen mit der Grammy-Gewinnerin Leny Andrade oder dem Bossa Nova-Urvater Johnny Alf gastierte Morello auf den bedeutendsten europäischen und südamerikanischen Festivals. Darüber hinaus arbeitete er mit Jimmy Smith, Randy Brecker, Bob Mintzer, Paul Kuhn, Billy Cobham, Airto Moreira, Larry Coryell und Pat Martino zusammen.

Peter Weniger gehört zu den gefragtesten Instrumentalisten der europäischen Jazzszene. Der heute in Berlin lebende Saxofonist spielte im Verlauf seiner bisherigen Karriere unter anderem mit Musikern wie John Abercrombie, Adam Nussbaum, Conrad Herwig, Jeff Hamilton oder Dave Liebman auf und war auch auf CDs und in Konzerten mit Jasper van't Hoff, Eddie Palmieri, Billy Cobham, Jean Louis Matinier u.v.a. zu hören. Neben seinen Live - Aktivitäten unterrichtet Weniger seit 1999 im Rahmen einer Professur an der "Universität der Künste"- Berlin und ist war bis Mitte 2019 der künstlerische Leiter des Jazz- Institutes.

Lucas Dorado, geboren am 23.04.1995 in Biel (CH), lernte schon als kleines Kind durch seinen Vater lateinamerikanische Rhythmen kennen und spielen. Seit 2012 ist er konzerttätig und ist unter anderem in Deutschland, Norwegen, Portugal, Frankreich, Argentinien und der Schweiz aufgetreten. Dazu durfte er die Bühne mit großen Namen wie Randy Brecker, Juan Munguía oder der Deutschen Oper Berlin teilen.

Dudu Penz, geboren 1964 in Porto Allegre wechselte mit 15 von der Gitarre zum Bass und machte sich schon bald einen Namen in der brasilianischen Szene. 1985 kam Dudu Penz nach Europa. Hier spielt er seither als absoluter Topvirtuose auf seinem Instrument mit verschiedensten Gruppen und Künstlern regelmäßig auf allen wichtigen Festivals. Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Chico Freeman und auch Luciano Pavarotti sind einige derjenigen, die in Genuss seiner musikalischen Qualität kommen durften.

Mauro Martins ist ein brasilianischer Bassist und Schlagzeuger aus Curitiba. Im Dezember 1989 wurde er eingeladen, in der Schweiz zu spielen. Er beschloss, sich in Europa niederzulassen, wo er seither nicht als vielseitiger Multiinstrumentalist bei verschiedenen Live-Musikprojekten und als Arrangeur bei zahlreichen Studioproduktionen tätig ist. Bis auf die Antarktis bespielte Mauro jeden Kontinent der Erde und alle relevanten Festivals und Clubs. Er arbeitete mit herausragenden Künstlern wie Airto Moreira & Larry Coryell, Luis Eça, Toninho Horta, Phill Collins, Tania Maria, Raul de Souza, Chico Cesar, Richard Galliano, Gregoire Maret & Gene Lake, Jovino Santos Neto und Itibere Zwarg von Hermeto Paschoals Band und vielen anderen zusammen.

Paulo Morello's Brazil quintet presents the album Sambop in 2022. This name says it all - is in the fusion of two terms, one of which stands for the core style of modern jazz and the other for the most important form and the most formative rhythm of Brazilian music:
Samba and bop not only meet, Morello and his four fellow musicians fuse jazzy bop and the diversity of Brazilian music into something whole, something beautiful, something new. And they do so with a naturally virtuosic, joyfully fluid looseness of music-making that only those who are absolute experts on the instrument and genres of their choice can achieve.

Paulo Morello has put together a select band for the concert at ZigZag: Berlin saxophone virtuoso Peter Weniger and Swiss vibraphone shooting star Lucas Dorado meet the grooving Brazilian rhythm section with Eduardo "Dudu" Penz on electric bass and Mauro Martins on drums.

Paulo Morello is one of Europe's leading jazz guitarists. He became internationally known with the Bossa Nova Legends project. Since then he has been playing here regularly as an absolute top virtuoso on his instrument with a wide variety of groups and artists at all the important festivals. Mauro Martins is a Brazilian bassist and drummer from Curitiba. In December 1989 he was invited to play in Switzerland. He decided to settle in Europe, where since then he has not been a versatile multi-instrumentalist in various live music projects and arranger in numerous studio productions. Except for Antarctica, Mauro played every continent on earth and all relevant festivals and clubs. He has collaborated with outstanding artists such as Airto Moreira & Larry Coryell, Luis Eça, Toninho Horta, Phill Collins, Tania Maria, Raul de Souza, Chico Cesar, Richard Galliano, Gregoire Maret & Gene Lake, Jovino Santos Neto and Itibere Zwarg of Hermeto Paschoal's band and many others.
