Zig Zag's favorite piano player Larry Porter is one of Germany's master jazz pianists. Having already toured extensively with the likes of Chet Baker and Art Farmer, he is one of only a few pianists who authentically communicate the language of American Jazz in its purest form. For this evening Larry Porter has put together an all-star band of some of Berlin's most distinguished jazz musicians who will perform arrangements of Thelonious Monk compositions. Come by and celebrate an evening full of bouncy grooves and swinging melodies!
Larry Porter is one of the most respected American jazz pianists currently to be found in Germany. His professional career spans five decades and his mastery of the art and language of jazz have taken him around the world. He has collaborated with some of America's greatest jazz legends, including: Chet Baker, Mel Lewis, Archie Shepp Thad Jones, Art Farmer etc
Peter Weniger "Being part in the act of creation" – with this credo, Peter Weniger has worked nationally and internationally in numerous musical projects of various genres with renowned artists. High emotional and brilliant virtuosity distinguish his musical statement. Rhythm, melody, harmony and sound stand with him in the foreground - to connect the new with the old and explore new avenues. Weniger is active both as a composer and bandleader as well as a teacher / "Jazz Educator" in many workshops at home and abroad. His recognized musical integrity is emphasized by numerous prizes, awards and tours. Peter Weniger toured and/or recorded with many artists and ensembles, amongst others with David Friedman, Jasper van’t Hof’s “Pili Pili”, Billy Cobham, Maceo Parker, Eddie Palmeri, Lionel Richie, Django Bates, Mike Stern, Leni Stern, Samuel Torres, Andreas Kissenbeck’s “Club Boogaloo”, Peter Herbolzheimer’s RC&B, and the German broadcasting service’s ARD big bands of SWR, HR, NDR and WDR (South West broadcasting, Hessian broadcasting, North German broadcasting and West German broadcasting).
John Marshall is for decades one of the most celebrated jazz trumpeters worldwide. Marshall was already in 1971 active in the the New York Jazz scene and played with Benny Goodman, Ornette Coleman, George Coleman, Buddy Rich, Dizzy Gillespie, Buck Clayton, Mario Bauza and the Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra. From 1987 to 1991 he led the jazz quintet Bopera House. From 1992 to 2017 he was one of the most featured soloists of the WDR Big Band/Cologne. He continues to work with his own groups, including Ferdinand Povel and Grant Stewart, among others.
