Mit Fuasi Abdul-Khaliq besucht einer der profiliertesten in Deutschland lebenden Jazzmusiker ein weiteres Mal den Zig-Zag-Jazzclub um Ihnen ein Programm mit authentischem afro-amerikanischen Jazzsound in der Tradition der wegweisendsten Künstler dieser Stilistik zu präsentieren.

Die international besetzte All-Star-Band, die Fuasi für dieses Concert engagiert hat setzt sich ebenfalls aus virtuosen Musikern zusammen, die zu den treibenden Kräften der Berliner Jazzszene gehören.

Fuasi Abdul-Khaliq ist seit 1972 professionell als Musiker tätig. Nach seinem College-Abschluss absolvierte er ein Postgraduiertenstudium bei dem verstorbenen großen afro-amerikanischen Pianisten Horace Tapscott und der UGMAA (Union of God's Musicians and Artist Ascension) in Los Angeles, Kalifornien. Dies führte zu einer lebenslangen Zusammenarbeit mit Tapscotts Pan-African People's Arkestra (PAPA), in der er als Assistenzdirigent, Arrangeur, Komponist und Texter tätig war, um seine Aufgaben am Saxophon, der Klarinette und der Flöte zu begleiten. 1991 kam Fuasi nach Berlin, wo er sich einen Namen in der Jazzszene der Stadt machte. In den letzten 23 Jahren tourte Fuasi durch Europa, Asien, Afrika und Mittelamerika, er leitete seine eigenen Ensembles wie Fuasi & Ensemble, The Ebony Big Band Experience, The Horace Tapscott Memorial Ensemble und die Afro Cubano Latin Jazz Connection.

Joel Holmes ist ein Grammy-nominierter, international anerkannter Pianist, Produzent und Komponist. Er tritt in unterschiedlichen Projekten auf der ganzen Welt auf, von New York bis Japan, und überzeugt die Zuhörer mit seinem einzigartigen Gefühl und Groove. Joel Holmes hat Konzerte mit Roy Hargrove, Jimmy Cobb, Nnenna Freelon und Javon Jackson u.v.m. gegeben. Sein Repertoire besteht aus traditionellem Jazz, World Musik, Nu-Jazz, Neo-Soul, Hip Hop und Elektronischer Musik.

Gur Liraz wurde 1988 in Tel Aviv, Israel, geboren und wurde an der renommierten Thelma Yellin High School im Hauptfach Jazz angenommen. Er verbrachte 4 Jahre mit dem Studium bei dem Jazzgitarrenmeister Ofer Ganor. Nach einem achtmonatigen Aufenthalt in New York, wo er Unterricht bei der Gitarrenlegende Peter Bernstein nahm, zog Gur 2013 nach Berlin und wurde bald in die sich rasant entwickelnde Jazzszene der Stadt eingebunden. Mit seinem Quartett begleitete er die Sängerin Amanda Becker bei ihrem Debütalbum "You're Looking at Me". Die beiden nahmen auch ein Duett-Album auf - "Ask Me Now" im Jahr 2023. Sein Debütalbum 'Squiggles' erschien 19. Mai 2023 beim Londoner Musiklabel UBUNTU Music erscheinen.

Carmelo Leotta ist ein in inzwischen ganz Europa beheimateter Musiker, der sich die Vielfalt der musikalischen Strömungen wie Jazz, Blues, Electronic und Ethno-Musik zu eigen gemacht hat. Als Arrangeur, Produzent und Komponist hat er vier Solo-Alben veröffentlicht. Im Laufe seiner langen Karriere durfte er schon die ganze Welt bereise und hatte die Ehre mit Giganten wie Jimmy Cobb, Archie Shepp oder Benny Golson zu spielen. Auch heute spielt er noch mit den angesagtesten Playern der Szene, beispielweise in seinem kammermusikalischen Jazztrio mit Tal Arditi und Dustin Drews.

Ursprünglich aus Niedersachen kam Tilman Person 1991 nach Berlin um mit Jerry Granelli und David Friedman zu studieren. Er ist festes Mitglied der Band Lyambiko, der Martina Gebhardt Band und des Albrecht Gündel-vom Hofe Jazz Sextet. Als Sideman ist er auf unzähligen Tonträgern festgehalten und fester Bestandteil der Berliner Szene.

With Fuasi Abdul-Khaliq, one of the most distinguished jazz musicians living in Germany visits the Zig Zag Jazz Club once again to present you with a program of authentic Afro-American jazz sound in the tradition of the most pioneering artists of this style.

The international all-star band that Fuasi has engaged for this concert is also made up of virtuoso musicians who are among the driving forces of the Berlin jazz scene.

Fuasi Abdul-Khaliq has been performing professionally since 1972. After graduating from college, he did his post­graduate studies with the late great African-American pianist, Horace Tapscott and UGMAA (Union of God's Musicians and Artist Ascension) in Los Angeles, California. This led to a lifetime relationship with Tapscott's Pan-African People's Arkestra (PAPA), during which time he served as assistant conductor, arranger, composer, copyist to accompany his duties on saxophone, clarinet and flute. In 1991, Fuasi came to Berlin, where he became a name in the city's jazz scene. For the last 23 years, Fuasi has toured Europe, Asia, Africa and Central America, he has led his own ensembles such as Fuasi & Ensemble, The Ebony Big Band Experience, The Horace Tapscott Memorial Ensemble and the Afro Cubano Latin Jazz Connection.

Gur Liraz was born in Tel Aviv, Israel in 1988 and was accepted to the prestigious Thelma Yellin High School as a Jazz major. He spent 4 years studying with jazz guitar master Ofer Ganor. After an eight-month stay in New York, where he took lessons with guitar legend Peter Bernstein, Gur moved to Berlin in 2013 and soon became involved in the city's rapidly developing jazz scene. With his quartet, he accompanied singer Amanda Becker on her debut album, "You're Looking at Me." The two also recorded a duet album - "Ask Me Now" in 2023. His debut album 'Squiggles' appeared May 19, 2023 on the London-based music label UBUNTU Music.

Carmelo Leotta is a musician based in now all Europe, who has embraced the diversity of musical currents such as jazz, blues, electronic and ethnic music. As an arranger, producer and composer, he has released four solo albums. In the course of his long career, he has had the privilege of traveling the world and playing with giants such as Jimmy Cobb, Archie Shepp and Benny Golson. Today he still plays with the hottest players on the scene, for example in his chamber jazz trio with Tal Arditi and Dustin Drews.

Originally from Lower Saxony, Tilman Person came to Berlin in 1991 to study with Jerry Granelli and David Friedman. He is a permanent member of the band Lyambiko, the Martina Gebhardt Band and the Albrecht Gündel-vom Hofe Jazz Sextet. As a sideman he is recorded on countless records and is an integral part of the Berlin scene.
