Hardbop-Titan Tony Lakatos beehrt Berlin mit einer internationalen Top-Besetzung, die ihresgleichen sucht!

Das Konzert im ZigZag in Berlin ist Teil der CD-Release Tour für das Album "BLUE CHILI" des Tony Lakatos Quintetts. Lakatos hat alle Stücke in der Pandemie-Zeit geschrieben und mit diesem erstklassigem Line-Up im Sommer 2022 in einem Berliner Studio eingespielt. Die Band zeigt sich in den CD-Aufnahmen in großer Spielfreude und wird dies live mit Sicherheit noch überbieten!

Tony Lakatos ist vermutlich jedem ein Begriff, der sich mit dem europäischen Jazz auseinander setzt. In eine Musikerfamilie geboren, begann Tony mit 15 Jahren mit dem Saxophonspiel, welches er in wenigen Jahren auf Weltklasse-Niveau zu spielen lernte. Kurz nach seinem Studium am Bela Bartók - Konservatorium in Budapest migrierte er nach Deutschland wo er seither als einer der gefragtesten Tenoristen lebt und wirkt. Zwischen 1993 und 2021 war er Solotenorist der H.R. - Bigband, mit der er den Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik gewann. Er kann auf die Mitwirkung bei über 350 Tonträgerproduktionen zurückblicken und dass sein Schaffen Kollaborationen mit Größen wie Randy Brecker, Al Foster, George Mraz, Art Farmer, Jasper van’t Hof, Kenny Wheeler, Adam Nussbaum oder Terri Lyne Carrington umfasst ist eigentlich müßig zu erwähnen.

Auch Alex Sipiagin dürfte dem geneigten Jazzfan kein Unbekannter sein. Seit seinem 24. Lebensjahr lebt der gebürtige Russe in New York, wo er zu den absoluten Top-Spielern seines Fachs gehört. Er gewann den renommierten Louis-Armstrong-Wettbewerb des Th. Monk Institute, veröffentlichte zahlreiche Alben auf dem berüchtigten Label Criss Cross und arbeitete in Formationen mit Michael Brecker, Eric Clapton, Donny McCaslin, Seamus Blake, Dave Holland oder der Mingus Bigband.

Danny Grissett ist in New York seit 20 Jahren ein unverzichtbarer Teil der Szene. Der 1975 in Los Angeles geborene Pianist studierte bei Barry Harris, Herbie Hancock und Kenny Barron. Noch in der L.A.-Szene etablierte er sich als kompetenter Sideman und begleitete Größen wie George Coleman, Billy Higgins und Jackie McLean. Spätestens aber seit Beginn der 2000er-Jahre ist Danny eine feste Größe in der Jazzwelt, spielte in Clubs und auf Festivals auf der ganzen Welt und vergrößerte das Portfolio seiner Kollaborationen um Namen wie Tom Harrell, Jeremy Pelt, Nocholas Payton, Benny Golson, Roy Hargorve, Freddie Hubbard und Marcus Gilmore.

Hans Glawischnig ist Sohn des Pianisten und Arrangeurs Dieter Glawischnig, dem früheren Leiter der NDR Bigband. Seine Mutter ist gebürtige US-Amerikanerin. Die interkontinentale Verbindung des Elternhauses sollte auch seine Karriere prägen. Nach Studien in Boston und New York eröffnete ihm ein erstes längeres Engagement in der Band des Conga-Spielers Ray Barretto musikalisch neue Welten. In kurzer Zeit avancierte er zu einem der gefragtesten Bassisten der US-Latin-Jazz-Szene – als einer der ganz wenigen Europäer in dieser Ausdrucksform. Auch war er an Chick Coreas multikulturellem Orchester-Projekt „The Continents“ beteiligt.

Die Zeitschrift Jazz Magazine bezeichnet Gregory Hutchinson ihn als "den Schlagzeuger seiner Generation", und in der Tat ist er einer der meistbeachteten Musiker unserer Zeit. Sein meisterhaftes Timing und der Ausdruck von Rhythmen sind der Kern seines persönlichen Stils. Er ist der Schlagzeuger für Liebhaber, der fest in der Jazztradition verwurzelt ist und in der Lage ist, sich allen Musikstilen mit höchster Präzision und Fantasie zu nähern. Dianne Reeves beschreibt ihn als "pures Genie". Gary Giddins beschrieb seine Schlagzeugarbeit als "elegant" und eher "wie Tanzen". Joshua Redman beschreibt ihn als "inspiriert". Für Hutch ist es sein Ziel, das Schlagzeug so zu spielen, wie Charlie Parker die Hörner spielt: "Ich möchte auf dem Schlagzeug so singen, wie er auf dem Horn singt."

The concert at ZigZag in Berlin is part of the CD release tour for the album "BLUE CHILI" of the Tony Lakatos Quintet. Tony Lakatos is probably a household name to anyone involved in European jazz. Born into a family of musicians, Tony started playing the saxophone at the age of 15, which he learned to play at a world-class level in just a few years. Shortly after graduating from the Bela Bartók Conservatory in Budapest, he migrated to Germany where he has since lived and worked as one of the most sought-after tenor players. Danny Grissett has been an indispensable part of the scene in New York for 20 years. Born in Los Angeles in 1975, the pianist studied with Barry Harris, Herbie Hancock and Kenny Barron. While still on the L.A. scene, he established himself as a competent sideman, accompanying such greats as George Coleman, Billy Higgins and Jackie McLean. But since the early 2000s at the latest, Danny has been a fixture in the jazz world, playing clubs and festivals around the world and adding names like Tom Harrell, Jeremy Pelt, Nocholas Payton, Benny Golson, Roy Hargorve, Freddie Hubbard and Marcus Gilmore to his portfolio of collaborations.

Hans Glawischnig is the son of pianist and arranger Dieter Glawischnig, former leader of the NDR Big Band. His mother was born in the United States. The intercontinental connection of his parents' home was also to shape his career. After studying in Boston and New York, his first extended engagement in the band of conga player Ray Barretto opened up new musical worlds for him. In a short time he advanced to become one of the most sought-after bass players on the US Latin jazz scene - as one of the very few Europeans in this form of expression. He was also involved in Chick Corea's multicultural orchestra project "The Continents".

Jazz Magazine describes him as “the drummer of his generation” and indeed, Gregory Hutchinson is one of the most highly respected musicians of our time. His mastery of timing and expression of rhythms is at the core of his personal style. He is a musician’s drummer, soundly rooted in the jazz tradition he is able to approach all styles of music with supreme accuracy and imagination, decorating compositions with his natural feel and mind blowing innovation. Dianne Reeves describes him as “Pure Genius.” Gary Giddins described his drum work as “Elegant” and more “like dancing.” Joshua Redman describes him as “Inspired.” To Hutch, his goal is to play the drums like Charlie Parker plays the horns, “I want to sing on the drums the way he sings on the horn.”
