Als fließende Verflechtung von Jazz, Blues, Balladen, R&B, Raga, Neuer Musik, Kinderliedern, Tropicalia, Two-Step, Hip-Hop beschreibt Gay sein neuestes Album Open Arms to Open Us. Es ist sein bisher farbenfrohstes und gemeinschaftlichstes Werk, ein strahlender Ausdruck von Gays unverkennbarem, genreübergreifendem, "panamerikanischem" Gebräu.

Ben LaMar Gay, eine der bestimmenden Figuren der pulsierenden Chicagoer Jazzperipherie ist Komponist, Multiinstrumentalist, Sänger, Dichter und offensichtlich eklektischer Universalgelehrter, der von Afropunk als "auffallend originell", von Pitchfork als "nicht kategorisierbar" und von Jeff Parker als "zweifellos einer meiner Lieblingsmusiker auf diesem Planeten" bezeichnet wurde. Er kanalisiert eine radikale Palette von Klängen, Farben und Klangräumen durch die universelle Sprache der Folklore; aber trotz der weithin zugeschriebenen und anerkannten Genialität seiner Arbeit sind sein künstlerischer Ansatz und sein allgemeines Auftreten von einer liebenswerten Bescheidenheit und warmen Menschlichkeit geprägt.
Er ist einer der produktivsten Mitarbeiter in der kreativen Musikgemeinschaft Chicagos und leistet aktive Beiträge zu Theaster Gates' Black Monks of Mississippi, Nicole Mitchells EarthSeed, Mike Reeds Flesh & Bone, Matthew Lux' Communication Arts Quartet, Joshua Abrams' Natural Information Society, Bitchin Bajas und vielen anderen. Er ist gedanklicher Nachkomme und langjähriger Teilnehmer der AACM (d.h. der legendären Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians). Desweiteren war er auch zentraler Bestandteil von Makaya McCravens Highly Rare und das Kornett-Cameo auf Jaimie Branchs Fly or Die (beide wurden von der New York Times in die "Best Albums of 2017" aufgenommen). Es genügt zu sagen, dass Ben LaMar Gay im aktuellen Zeitgeist der progressiven Jazzklänge, die aus Chicago hervorgehen, nahezu allgegenwärtig ist.

Will Faber arbeitet mit Gitarre, Banjo, Ngoni, Laptop und Flöte und konzentriert sich auf kreative Improvisation, nachhaltige Zusammenarbeit und unermüdliche Wiederholung. In der Jazzimprovisation verwurzelt ist, umfasst Fabers Arbeit auch Elektronik, Geräusche, Feldaufnahmen und Tanz. Faber lebt südlich von Chicago in der Stadt Crete, Illinois, und arbeitet sowohl allein als auch mit anderen Künstlern zusammen, darunter das Kollektiv El is a Sound of Joy und Ensembles unter der Leitung von Ernest Dawkins und wie heute Ben Lamar Gay.

Matthew Davis ist ein Posaunist und Multiinstrumentalist aus Chicago. Von der Avantgarde bis zu Motown, von kubanischen Rhythmen bis zum Blues nutzt er seine vielfältigen musikalischen Einflüsse, um einen einzigartigen und doch vertrauten Sound zu schaffen.

Tommaso Moretti ist ein in Italien geborener Schlagzeuger, Komponist und Pädagoge. Seine musikalische Karriere begann, als er nach Rom zog. Zwischen 2004 und 2013 arbeitete er mit verschiedenen Formationen und begann sich innerhalb der kreativen Jazzszene einen Namen zu machen. 2013 siedelte er nach Chicago über und ist seitdem Teil der dortigen pulsierenden Szene. Als Musiker und Musikpädagoge in Italien tätig, pflegte er auch internationale Kollaborationen in Chicago (wo er die Math-Rock-Band Tasty Gasoline gründete und Teil von Ben Lamar Gays Projekt Tones for Tales wurde) und in London, wo er (mit Tribraco) dem Projekt "Match and Fuse" (einem europäischen Netzwerk zur Förderung experimenteller Musiker und Bands) beitrat. Derzeit ist er Teil der folgenden Musikprojekte aus Chicago: Rob Frye Exoplanet, Ben Lamar Gay quartet, Eric Hines Pan Dulce, Kevin and Hell group, Chicago Samba.

Fluently interweaving jazz, blues, ballads, R&B, raga, new music, nursery rhyme, Tropicalia, two-step, hip-hop and beyond is “Open Arms to Open Us” his most colorful and communicalbe work yet, it`s a beaming expression of GA’s signature omni-genre, „Pan-American“ brew.

Ben LaMar Gay is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, singer, poet, and patently eclectic polymath who Afropunk has called “strikingly original,” Pitchfork has called “uncategorizable,” and Jeff Parker has called "hands down, one of my favorite musicians on the planet today.” He channels a radical array of sound, color, and space through the universal language of folklore; but despite the widely attributed genius of his work, his artistic approach and general demeanor are characterized by an endearing humbleness and warm humanity.
One of the most prolific collaborators in Chicagos creative music community, he makes active contributions to Theaster Gates’s Black Monks of Mississippi, Nicole Mitchell’s EarthSeed, Mike Reed’s Flesh & Bone, Matthew Lux’s Communication Arts Quartet, Joshua Abrams’s Natural Information Society, Bitchin Bajas & many more. He’s a default descendent and a long-time participant in the AACM (i.e. the legendary Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians). And he’s well represented in the International Anthem catalogue as well. Beyond being the brains behind Bottle Tree – the future funk suite we released in April of 2017 that was named “#1 Best Album of the Year” by London’s EZH Magazine (c/o founder Tina Edwards) and on NPR’s Sound Opinions (c/o producer Ayana Contreras) – he was a core component of Makaya McCraven’s Highly Rare and a cornet cameo on Jaimie Branch’s Fly or Die (both of which were included in the New York Times’s “Best Albums of 2017”). Suffices to say, Ben LaMar Gay is nearly omnipresent in the current zeitgeist of progressive jazz sounds sprouting from Chicago.

Working with guitar, banjo, ngoni, laptop and flute, Will Faber focuses on creative improvisation, sustained collaboration and relentless repetition. Rooted in jazz improvisation, Faber's work also incorporates electronics, noise, field recordings, and dance. Faber lives south of Chicago in the town of Crete, Illinois, and works both solo and with other artists, including the collective El is a Sound of Joy and ensembles led by Ernest Dawkins and, as today, Ben Lamar Gay.

Matthew Davis is a Chicago based trombonist and multi-instrumentalist. From the avant-garde to Motown, from Cuban rhythms to the blues, he uses his diverse musical influence to create a sound that is unique yet familiar.

Tommaso Moretti is an Italian-born drummer, composer and educator. His musical career began when he moved to Rome. Between 2004 and 2013 he worked with various formations and began to make a name for himself within the creative jazz scene. In 2013 he moved to Chicago and since then he has been part of the vibrant scene there. Working as a musician and music educator in Italy, he also cultivated international collaborations in Chicago (where he founded the math-rock band Tasty Gasoline and became part of Ben Lamar Gay's project Tones for Tales) and in London, where he joined (with Tribraco) the project "Match and Fuse" (a European network promoting experimental musicians and bands). Currently he is part of the following Chicago music projects: Rob Frye Exoplanet, Ben Lamar Gay quartet, Eric Hines Pan Dulce, Kevin and Hell group, Chicago Samba.
