Bastian Stein ist einer der erfolgreichsten jungen Jazztrompeter Deutschlands. Er begann mit 15 Jahren klassische Trompete an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Wien zu studieren und wechselte im Anschluss dann nach Amsterdam. Den Abschluss „Master of Arts“ erhielt er wieder zurück in Wien, wo er bis 2013 lebte. Sein Debut Album „Grounded“ veröffentlichte er 2012 bei „Double Moon Records“ und im darauffolgenden Jahr mit der „Bastian Stein Group“ (feat. Pablo Held, Matthias Pichler und Tobias Backhaus) die CD „Diegesis“ bei dem deutschen Label Pirouet Records. Von der Fachpresse wird Stein ein einzigartig schöner Ton, poetische Kraft und viel Ruhe, gar ein makelloses Spiel attestiert (BR Klassik). Seit 2013 lebt Bastian Stein in Köln, wo er seine intensive Arbeit an seinen eigenen Projekten fortsetzt und fester Bestandteil der dortigen lebendigen Szene ist. Daneben ist er auch als Sideman äußerst gefragt und arbeitete in den vergangenen Jahren mit allen deutschen Rundfunk Big Bands. Seit 2022 ist er Professor für Jazz-Trompete am Jazz-Institut Berlin und spielt nun das erste Mal seit 2018 endlich wieder in seiner Trio-Formation im Zig Zag!

Julius Gawlik ist einer dieser neuen jungen Künstler der deutschen Jazzszene, die es in schon jungen Jahren geschafft haben sich nationales und internationales Renommee zu erspielen. Julius wurde 1997 in Halle (Saale) geboren und spielt seit seinem 13. Lebensjahr Saxophon. Zuerst als Jungstudent in Mainz, dann als Haupthörer in Berlin gelang ihm ein kometenhafter Aufstieg zu einem der angesagtesten und hoffnungsvollsten Tenoristen Deutschlands. Er spielte im LJO Rheinland-Pfalz und im BuJazzO und ist darüber hinaus mit gerade einmal 24 Jahren festes Mitglied der NDR-Bigband geworden. Ausgezeichnet wurde er unter anderem mit einem Stipendium der Temple University in Philadelphia 2014 und dem JIB Jazz Preis 2019.

Phil Donkin tourt regelmäßig mit internationalen Spitzenkünstlern. Phils neuestes Werk als Leader ist "Value" (2019 NWog Records). Es folgt auf seine frühere Veröffentlichung "The Gate" (2015 Whirlwind Recordings). Wenn Phil nicht gerade seine eigenen Bands leitet, kann man ihn mit Künstlern wie Oliver Steidle, Tom Challenger, Philipp Gropper, Frank Möbus, Kalle Kalima, Jim Black, Wanja Slavin, Johannes Enders und Bastian Stein auf Tournee sehen und hören. Phil ist durch ganz Europa, Nordamerika, Afrika und Asien getourt. In den letzten Jahren hat Phil auch mit John Abercrombie, Marc Copland, Ralph Alessi, Joey Baron, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner, Chris Speed, Dan Weiss, Ethan Iverson und Bill Stewart gespielt. Er lebt derzeit in Berlin.

James Maddren ist ein in London lebender britischer Schlagzeuger und Komponist. Derzeit ist er einer der gefragtesten Schlagzeuger Londons. Er hört und spielt gerne alle Arten von Musik und hat die Bühne mit vielen Künstlern und Ensembles geteilt, darunter das Gwilym Simcock and Kit Downes Trio, Julian Arguelles Tetra, Marc Copland/Stan Sulzman Quartet, Ivo Neame Group, Phil Donkin, Alex Garnett's Bunch of Five, Michael Janisch, Will Vinson, Martin Speake Quartet, Phronesis, Jonathan Bratoeff Quartet und viele andere.

Bastian Stein is one of the most successful young jazz trumpeters in Germany. He began studying classical trumpet at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna at the age of 15 and then moved to Amsterdam. He received his Master of Arts degree back in Vienna, where he lived until 2013. He released his debut album "Grounded" in 2012 on "Double Moon Records" and the following year with the "Bastian Stein Group" (feat. Pablo Held, Matthias Pichler and Tobias Backhaus) the CD "Diegesis" on the German label Pirouet Records. Since 2013 Bastian Stein lives in Cologne, where he continues his intensive work on his own projects and is an integral part of the lively scene there. In addition, he is also in great demand as a sideman and has worked with all German radio big bands in recent years. Since 2022 he is professor for jazz trumpet at the Jazz Institute Berlin and and is now finally playing in his trio formation at Zig Zag for the first time since 2018!

Julius Gawlik is one of those new young artists on the German jazz scene who have managed to gain national and international renown at a very young age.
