Wenn eine Konzertreihe über drei Jahre hinweg ausverkauft ist, dann ist das schon eine kleine Sensation. Die Rede ist vom legendären Arab Song, der früher in der Werkstatt der Kulturen stattfand und nun im Zigzag Jazzclub ein neues Zuhause mit optimaler Atmosphäre gefunden hat. Unter der Leitung des marokkanischen Oud-Spielers und Fusion-Musikers Alaa Zouiten können alle Musikbegeisterten eine explosiv-musikalische Hafla erleben. Hafla? Eine Hafla ist ein bisschen Party, ein bisschen transkulturelle Jamsession, ein bisschen Überraschung. Das wichtigste ist die Interaktion – zwischen Musikern auf der Bühne, zwischen Musikern und Publikum – und auch die spannende Interaktion zwischen arabischen, europäischen und Weltmusik-Sphären. Zeremonienmaster ist Alaa Zouiten, geboren in Casablanca. Dort begann seine musikalische Karriere zum Meister an der Oud, der arabischen Laute, und führte von der Ausbildung am Conservatoire National de Marrakech hin zum Sideman der Fusion- Band „Jbara“. Parallel setzte er seine musikalischen Studien fort und schloss 2013 ein Bachelor-Studium in Musikvermittlung und Philosophie an der Universität Erfurt ab. Daran schloss sich ein Masterstudium in Transcultural Music Studies an der Franz Liszt Hochschule für Musik in Weimar an. Er veröffentlichte mehrere Alben als Leader.
Weitere wichtige Stationen von Alaa Zouiten waren die musikalische Leitung und der Auftritt mit dem "Global Arabian Music Orchestra" in der Berliner Philharmonie, der Auftritt bei dem "Requiem für Syrien" in der Dresdner Philharmonie, Bienal del Flamenco in Sevilla (sept 2020), die Tourneen von "TALKING OUD 2020/2021" in Frankreich, Deutschland, Spanien und Marokko sowie die UK-Tour mit "Making Tracks 2022".

Youssef Belbachir wurde am 14.11.1969 in Oujda, Marokko geboren.
Er wuchs aufgrund der räumlichen Nähe zu Algerien im Umfeld des Rai auf, von dem er stark beeindruckt war. Marokkanische Musik mit allen Farben und unterschiedlichem Rhythmen und Richtungen, in moderner wie auch traditioneller Interpretation war und ist für ihn immer noch die Quelle seiner Inspiration. Er begeistert sein Publikum stets mit seiner wunderbaren Stimme und einnehmenden Ausstrahlung.
Seit 1996 lebt er in Berlin und arbeitet mit verschiedensten Bands und zahlreichen unterschiedlichen Projekten.

Miloud Messabih stammt aus Algerien, dem Mutterland des Rai. Mit orientalischer Leidenschaft und Impulsivität begeistert er als Perkussionist und Akkordeonspieler und hat das arabische Tonsystem bereits mit der Muttermilch aufgesogen. Miloud spielte bereits mit solchen Rai-Legenden wie Tassili oder dem Trompeter Bellemou.

Der in Budapest aufgewachsene Peter Somos begann seine professionelle Schlagzeugerkarriere mit 14 Jahren und schloss sein Studium an der Codarts University of Music in Rotterdam mit summa cum laude ab. Im Laufe seiner Karriere hat er mit Künstlern wie Casey Benjamin, Mahesh Vinayakram, Nadishana, Paquito D'Riviera, Besh o droM, Krzysztof Scieranski, um nur einige zu nennen, aufgenommen bzw. ist mit ihnen aufgetreten. Er hat auch auf Festivals wie Sziget (HU), Exit (SR), WOMADelaide (AUS), Meskie Granie, Jamboree, Opener' (PL), Sudtirol Jazz (IT), JodhpurRIFF, Kolkata Jazz (IN), Shanghai World Music (CN), oder dem Jeju World Music (KR) gespielt. Er ist ein erfahrener Studiomusiker, der bei mehreren Aufnahmen in vielen Stilrichtungen (von Jazz über Pop-Rock bis Metal) mitgewirkt hat.

Redha Bendib wurde am 7. Februar 1969 geboren und wuchs im künstlerisch pulsierenden Constantine auf. Er wurde mit der Musik groß. Schon im Kindesalter wurde er von seinem Vater im Percussion spielen unterstützt. Ab seinem 20. Lebensjahr begleitete er außerdem verschiedene Gruppen bei Auftritten in Algerien. Sein Können als Darbukaspieler (sowie viele andere Percussionarten) war mit 25 Jahren derart ausgeprägt, dass er seine eigene professionelle Musikgruppe gründete, die in Constantine sehr erfolgreich war. Zu dieser Zeit trat er außerdem mit anderen berühmten Musikern verschiedener Stile auf. Mit 29 besuchte er das erste Mal Deutschland und zog 2008 nach Berlin. In der kosmopolitischen Metropole spielte er von nun an auch Jazz, Orientpop und vieles mehr. Bendigs größte Stärke ist wohl seine unglaubliche Wandlungsfähigkeit, die es ihm erlaubt innerhalb kürzester Zeit eine neue Stilrichtung zu assimilieren und zu meistern.

Their repertoire consists mainly of traditional Moroccan music, including Gnawa, Malhoun and Chaabi, but also Algerian Rai music. For several years Redha Bendib (percussion & vocals), Miloud Messabih (percussion, accordion & vocals), Belbachir Youssef (vocals) have been playing together in several projects, representing the North African region at numerous cultural events in Germany. The different nationalities and musical influences have helped to create a very diverse palette of North African music.

Youssef Belbachir was born on 14.11.1969 in Oujda, Morocco.He grew up due to the proximity to Algeria in the environment of Rai, by which he was strongly impressed. Miloud Messabih comes from Algeria, the motherland of Rai. With oriental passion and impulsiveness he inspires as a percussionist and accordion player and has already absorbed the Arabic sound system with his mother's milk. Miloud has already played with such Rai legends as Tassili or the trumpeter Bellemou.

He is an experienced studio musician who has participated in several recordings in many styles (from jazz to pop-rock to metal). He was also hired by the best rock metal studio in Eastern Europe (Hertz Studios, known for their work with Behemoth or Decapitated) to record the whole sound library.

Redha Bendib was born on February 7, 1969 and grew up in artistically vibrant Constantine. He grew up with music. Already in his childhood he was supported by his father in playing percussion. From the age of 20, he also accompanied various groups in performances in Algeria. His skills as a darbuka player (as well as many other types of percussion) were so pronounced by the age of 25 that he founded his own professional music group, which was very successful in Constantine. At that time, he also performed with other famous musicians of different styles (Malouf and other Arab-Andalusian music). At 29, he visited Germany for the first time and moved to Berlin in 2008. In the cosmopolitan metropolis he played from now on also jazz, oriental pop and much more. Bendig's greatest strength is probably his incredible versatility, which allows him to assimilate and master a new style within a very short time.
