ARAB SONG – Rückkehr einer Legende

Wenn eine Konzertreihe über drei Jahre hinweg ausverkauft ist, dann ist das schon eine kleine Sensation. Die Rede ist vom legendären Arab Song, der früher in der Werkstatt der Kulturen stattfand und nun im Zigzag Jazzclub ein neues Zuhause mit optimaler Atmosphäre gefunden hat. Unter der Leitung des marokkanischen Oud-Spielers und Fusion-Musikers Alaa Zouiten können alle Musikbegeisterten eine explosiv-musikalische Hafla erleben. Hafla? Eine Hafla ist ein bisschen Party, ein bisschen transkulturelle Jamsession, ein bisschen Überraschung. Das wichtigste ist die Interaktion – zwischen Musikern auf der Bühne, zwischen Musikern und Publikum – und auch die spannende Interaktion zwischen arabischen, europäischen und Weltmusik-Sphären. Schwer zu beschreiben, muss man erleben. Eines steht fest, wir warnen Sie jetzt schon: Es macht süchtig.

Zeremonienmaster ist Alaa Zouiten, geboren in Casablanca. Dort begann seine musikalische Karriere zum Meister an der Oud, der arabischen Laute, und führte von der Ausbildung am Conservatoire National de Marrakech hin zum Sideman der Fusion- Band „Jbara“. Parallel setzte er seine musikalischen Studien fort und schloss 2013 ein Bachelor-Studium in Musikvermittlung und Philosophie an der Universität Erfurt ab. Daran schloss sich ein Masterstudium in Transcultural Music Studies an der Franz Liszt Hochschule für Musik in Weimar an. Er veröffentlichte mehrere Alben als Leader.
Weitere wichtige Stationen von Alaa Zouiten waren die musikalische Leitung und der Auftritt mit dem "Global Arabian Music Orchestra" in der Berliner Philharmonie, der Auftritt bei dem "Requiem für Syrien" in der Dresdner Philharmonie, Bienal del Flamenco in Sevilla (sept 2020), die Tourneen von "TALKING OUD 2020/2021" in Frankreich, Deutschland, Spanien und Marokko sowie die UK-Tour mit "Making Tracks 2022"

Husam Al-Ali ist Sänger, Oudspieler und Musikpädagoge. Er stammt aus Homs, Syrien, wo er an der Baath-Universität studierte. Nach seinem Abschluss gründete er sein erstes Ensemble, mit dem er auf den Bühnen von Aleppo, Latakia, Beirut und Damaskus zu erleben war. Im Jahr 2015 trat er mit seinem Ensemble im Opernhaus von Damaskus sowie an anderen bekannten Aufführungsorten auf und hatte seine eigene Fernsehsendung "Samaae Ugarit" im syrischen Fernsehen. Nachdem Hussam nach Berlin ausgewandert war, gründete er 2018 gemeinsam mit internationalen Berliner Musikern das Al-Ali Ensemble, das sich zum Ziel gesetzt hat, nicht nur die klassische Musik des Nahen Ostens dem Westen näher zu bringen, sondern auch die Aufführungspraxis der arabischen klassischen Musik zu internationalisieren.

Dima Dawood, Kanunspielerin, geboren in Damaskus, Syrien in 1996. Sie ist 2014 nach Deutschland eingesiedelt und ist seit 2016 in Berlin ansässig. Sie studiert derzeit an der Humboldt-Universität Musikwissenschaft.
Neben ihren eigenen Projekten ist sie seit März 2019 Mitglied des italienischen ,,Almara” Orchesters, des Theaterstücks ,,we love 2 raqs" (2021) und des Projekts ,,Heschek Beschek" (2022). Sie ist in der Berliner und europäischen Musikszene gut vernetzt und eine gefragte Virtuosin auf ihrem Instrument.

Romeo Natur ist ein deutsch-palästinensischer Perkussionist. Er wählt zu den wichtigsten Perkussionisten in Berlin, die sich mit der arabischen/nahöstlichen Musik beschäftigen. Mit der transkulturellen Fusion-Jazz-Trio JAPAL gewann er 2018 den creole global music contest. Weitere Stationen von Romeo war die Gründung vom Event LATINARAB sowie die Zusammenarbeit mit "Babylon Orchstra Berlin"und mit der Band "Embryo".

When a concert series is sold out for three years, it is already a small sensation. We are talking about the legendary Arab Song, which used to take place in the Werkstatt der Kulturen and has now found a new home with an optimal atmosphere in the Zigzag Jazzclub. Under the direction of Moroccan oud player and fusion musician Alaa Zouiten, all music enthusiasts can experience an explosive musical Hafla. Hafla? A Hafla is a little bit of party, a little bit of transcultural jam session, a little bit of surprise. The most important thing is the interaction - between musicians on stage, between musicians and audience - and also the exciting interaction between Arabic, European and world music spheres. Hard to describe, must be experienced. One thing is for sure, we warn you already: it is addictive.

Master of ceremonies is Alaa Zouiten, born in Casablanca. There his musical career began as a master on the oud, the Arabic lute, and led from training at the Conservatoire National de Marrakech to sideman of the fusion band "Jbara". Further important stations of Alaa Zouiten were the musical direction and the performance with the "Global Arabian Music Orchestra" in the Berlin Philharmonie, the performance at the "Requiem for Syria" in the Dresden Philharmonie, Bienal del Flamenco in Sevilla (sept 2020), the tours of "TALKING OUD 2020/2021" in France, Germany, Spain and Morocco, as well as the UK tour with "Making Tracks 2022 "LA CARAVANE DU MAGHREB is a Berlin-based band consisting of three permanent, but often several musicians of different origins. Their repertoire consists mainly of traditional Moroccan music, including Gnawa, Malhoun and Chaabi, but also Algerian Rai music. For several years Redha Bendib (percussion & vocals), Miloud Messabih (percussion, accordion & vocals), Belbachir Youssef (vocals) have been playing together in several projects, representing the North African region at numerous cultural events in Germany. The different nationalities and musical influences have helped to create a very diverse palette of North African music.

Husam Al-Ali is a singer, oud player and music educator. He is from Homs, Syria, where he studied at Baath University. After graduation, he founded his first ensemble, with which he performed on the stages of Aleppo, Latakia, Beirut and Damascus. In 2015, he performed with his ensemble at the Damascus Opera House as well as other well-known performance venues and had his own television show "Samaae Ugarit" on Syrian television. After Hussam emigrated to Berlin, he founded the Al-Ali Ensemble in 2018 together with international Berlin musicians, aiming not only to bring Middle Eastern classical music closer to the West, but also to internationalize the performance practice of Arabic classical music.

Dima Dawood, Kanun player, born in Damascus, Syria in 1996, resettled in Germany in 2014 and has been based in Berlin since 2016. She is currently studying musicology at Humboldt University.In addition to her own projects, she is a member of the Italian ,,Almara" orchestra since March 2019, the play ,,we love 2 raqs" (2021) and the project ,,Heschek Beschek" (2022). She is well connected in the Berlin and European music scene and a sought-after virtuoso on her instrument.

Romeo Natur is a German-Palestinian percussionist. He chooses to be one of the most important percussionists in Berlin working with Arabic/Middle Eastern music. He won the creole global music contest in 2018 with the transcultural fusion jazz trio JAPAL. Other stations of Romeo was the foundation of the event LATINARAB as well as the collaboration with "Babylon Orchstra Berlin "and with the band "Embryo".
