Sundays at the Zig Zag is the closest you will get to the atmosphere, energy and ambience of the New York Jazz revolution taking place in the 30´s- 50´s. The evening features mainly young, talented jazz musicians who have contributed to the jazz boom in Berlin over the past decade. It’s intended for those of you who can appreciate the rare and fine quality of purely acoustic and unamplified music. You'll feel like you're sharing the stage with musicians who include some of the city's best and finest award-winning young talents!

The Earelephants play hot, swinging music in quartet formation without drumset, with great ears for details and a good memory for many musical treasures. The sound of the four young musicians from the Berlin scene may remind you of the Sidney Bechet Big Four or the Earregulars

Eldar Tsalikov A vibrant young saxophonist from Russia who is known for consistently discovering and inventing fresh sounds through modern improvised music. Born in 1993 in Rostov and after studying at the "Kim Nazaretov Children's Jazz School", Eldar moved to Berlin in 2011 and began his studies at the "Jazz-Institut-Berlin" under the guidance of artists such as Peter Weniger, Greg Cohen and John Hollenbeck.

Eldar visited Europe for the first time in 2005 when he participated at the "Glasgow International Jazz Festival". Since then he has been traveling and performing in countries such as Germany, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Italy, Denmark, Greece, etc.

Besides his own gypsy swing group "Eldar Tsalikov FO'tet", Eldar has participated in numerous projects and collaborated with such great artists as Greg Cohen, Joey Baron, Evan Christopher, Wycliffe Gordon, Irvin Mayfield, Anna Webber, Dave Liebman, Jerry Bergonzi, Tommy Smith and Dennis Rowland.

Johannes Böhmer was born in Göttingen, Germany, got in touch with music at a young age and discovered the trumpet after some time of singing and playing the piano. Later he studied jazz trumpet in Amsterdam and Philadelphia. In 2010 he moved to Berlin, where he is involved in many projects as an instrumentalist, arranger and composer. He loves to play very different kinds of music and feels comfortable as a soloist as well as an ensemble member. His focus is on jazz projects in the Berlin scene, creative large ensembles (Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra, Magnetic Ghost Orchestra, Omniversal Earkestra), trad jazz (Rufus Temple Orchestra, Syncopation Society Orchestra) and Afrobeat (Jimi Tenor Band, Mali70 Earkestra, Polyversal Souls).

Paul Santner was born in Salzburg, Austria in 1992. That's where he started to sing and play the trumpet and the piano from a young age. He picked up the doublebass and the guitar later. He moved to Berlin in 2011 to study music with Kurt Rosenwinkel, Greg Cohen and others. Apart from his own solo, duo and trio projects he plays with Sun Dew, 1000 gram, Bitter Blond, Rachel Sermanni and many more.

Martin Buhl

The Odense native developed a deep interest in the bass as a teenager, and it didn't take long for him to emerge on the vibrant Danish music scene. He holds a bachelor's degree from the renowned Berlin Jazz Institute, where he found a mentor in legendary bassist and producer Greg Cohen. He has collaborated with a variety of international artists and travels the globe extensively to communicate and deliver his strong pulse on the double bass and electric bass.

ENTRANCE FEES
One of the reasons that makes this evening so unique is that it is the first and only jazz club in the world that manages to finance world class events through a crowd funding concept. How do we do it? Its quite simple… during the break of the concert we make an announcement regarding the collection for the evening. We inform our customers that a fee of around 15€ per person will allow us to fairly compensate the musicians. Some people give more and some give less… and that´s ok… we ´ve already successfully promoted hundreds of concerts like this!!!
