Eldar Tsalikov - saxophone and clarinet (RUS)
Marcin Masecki - piano (POL)
Ugo Alunni - drums (ITA)

This Sunday’s ‘International Ragtime’ program will be presented by three musicians, brought together by their love for traditional jazz and its rich musical stylistic. It will feature Eldar Tsalikov on saxophone and clarinet, Marcin Masecki on piano and Ugo Alunni on drums. The trio will be performing their reconstruction and investigation of the roots of the oldest jazz from the West, as well as their arrangements of Polish wartime songs, and even some of the originals.

ELDAR TSALIKOV
A vibrant young saxophonist from Rostov, who is known for consistently discovering and inventing fresh sounds through modern improvised music, while being deeply rooted in the traditions of jazz.
Eldar was born in 1993 in Rostov-on-Don (Russia) and started to play saxophone at the age of 9 at the Rostov Children Jazz School n/a Kim Nazaretov in Russia. At the age of 17 after graduating from the Jazz School Eldar decided to continue his education abroad. He moved to Germany and studied with Peter Weniger, Greg Cohen, and John Hollenbeck at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. Since 2005 he has been performing all around Europe, including Czech Republic, Scotland, Germany, Denmark, and Italy. He has won several competitions, such as the IV International Jazz Competition in St. Petersburg (Russia), the Ukraine International Jazz Festival in Kiev, and the VIII International Jazz Competition in Odessa. Eldar has been touring Europe with the East-West European Jazz Orchestra, playing with artists, such as Dave Liebman, Jerry Bergonzi, Wycliffe Gordon, and Dennis Rowland.

MARCIN MASECKI
One of Poland’s most prolific and idiosyncratic musicians. Winner of many awards he performs extensively on all keyboard instruments, composes for film and theatre, produces festivals, conducts orchestras, records and curates musical events. His projects span a wide range of styles and his virtuosic fusion of different genres as well as the blurring of the line between high art and entertainment have become his hallmarks. Currently he co-leads the Jazz Band Młynarski-Masecki, a large ensemble devoted to polish jazz from the 20s and 30s in his own arrangments. Parallel he runs a jazz trio with drummer Jerzy Rogeiwicz and bassist Piotr Domagalski. He also performs a modern version of ragtime in duo with Rogiewicz. As a classical musician he works solo, with chamber groups and with orchestras as soloist and/or conductor. He hosts a variety of concert cycles where he narrates the history of classical music in an informal and refreshing style. He works regularly with the Polish National Radio, Teatr Studio, Bar Studio and Capella Cracoviensis. He lives in Berlin and Warsaw.

UGO ALUNNI
Born in Perugia, there he attended the Conservatory „F. Morlacchi" after which he investigated further the drums at the Collective School of Music in New York City. He currently resides in Berlin where he attended the Jazz Institut under the guidance of John Hollenbeck, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Greg Cohen and David Friedman. He has played with Rossano Emili, Perugia Jazz Orchestra, Pietro Tonolo, Joe Chambers, Dan Kinzelman, Elias Stemeseder, Phil Donkin, Uli Kempendorff, and many others.

Sitzplatzreservierung

IMPORTANT: Please make sure to arrive at the club in time, but at least 15min before the concert starts, as we allocate seats on a first-come-first-serve basis. Arriving too late (less than 15min before the concert) may cause that your seats will be no longer available, especially when the concert is booked out.

In order to comply with the current distance and hygiene regulations, we will from now on present 2 shows per evening with a changing audience, as it is also common in cities like New York and London. This will create a very special, intimate and familiar atmosphere for you and us through the resulting new room layout with sofas and upholstered chairs distributed throughout the entire room and will ensure an even more intense and electrifying live music experience, which you will be able to enjoy more than ever before!

Reservations are limited due to social distance regulations.

We ask for your understanding that due to the newly regulated room layout, group reservations are more likely to receive a seat with a table than single person reservations. Thank you very much

(Our team has been thoroughly informed about the hygiene regulations. Please take note that we strictly adhere to the hygiene regulations and distance instructions).

ENTRANCE FEES
One of the reasons that makes the zig zag jazz club so unique is that it is the first and only jazz club in the world that manages to finance world class events through a crowd funding concept. How do we do it? Its quite simple… during the break of the concert we make an announcement regarding the collection for the evening. For most concerts (excluding the jam session) we inform our customers that a fee of around 15€ per person will allow us to fairly compensate the musicians. Some people give more and some give less… and that´s ok… we ´ve already successfully promoted hundreds of concerts like this!!!

EINTRITT
