Tolyqyn is a trance/blues trio fronted by established Berlin violinist Roland Satterwhite. Their original songs draw inspiration from west african kora and gnawa music, as well as from delta blues, psychedelic rock, and modern jazz. in this project roland plucks the viola and sings lyrics about love, politics and animals. The songs are not just lyrical vehicles, however. extended grooves with gorgeous harmonies and fully free improvised moments give the music a weight independent of the lyrics.
Tal Arditi, recently landed in berlin, and making waves on the jazz scene here, is a virtuosic young guitarist as comfortable playing led zeppelin as he is Thelonius Monk. On drums is Kuba Gudz, who plays also in the Greenhouse Expansion Project as well as Shishko Disco, and lends his exuberance and polyrhythmic mastery. Special guest for the evening is pianist Olivia Trummer, who berlin jazz audiences know well for her beautiful compositions and singing.
Tolyqyn ist ein Trio, das Blues und Trance miteinander verbindet. Gegründet hat das Trio der Geigenvirtuose Roland Satterwhite, dessen Klangkunst im Vordergrund steht und der in Berlin schon seit vielen Jahren auftritt. Phasenweise spielt er auch eine Viola wie eine Gitarre. Roland lässt Musikelemente aus Westafrika (Kora und Gnawa) einfließen, vom Delta Blues, Psychodelic Rock und Modern Jazz. Roland singt dazu seine Texte über Liebe, Politik und Tiere. Die Liedtexte stehen jedoch nicht monolithisch für sich; vielmehr sind sie eingefasst in Roland's Improvisationskünste, Grooves und in seine überraschenden Harmonien.
Tal Arditi ist er kürzlich in Berlin angekommen, hat aber schon erste Spuren in der hiesigen Jazzszene der Clubs hinterlassen. Stücke von Led Zeppelin und Thelononius Monk gehen ihm spielend von der Hand. Am Schlagzeug des Trios sitzt Kuba Gudz, vielen bekannt durch das Greenhouse Expansion Projekt oder die Begleitung des legendären Riccardo del Fra. Kuba ist ein wahrer Meister beim Verbinden verschiedener Rhythmen und ein Ausnahmetalent. Special Guest am Abend ist die Pianistin Olivia Trummer, die vielen Berlinern Jazzkennern ein Begriff sein dürfte durch ihre bezaubernden Kompositionen und ihre besondere Stimme.
Olivia Trummer
Trained in Stuttgart and in New York, the pianist and singer fascinates her audience with a vivid stage presence and a unique style which the press has started out to call the "Olivia Trummer style". With her complex and likewise catchy music she is considered internationally to be one of the most interesting female jazz musicians of her generation and has been invited to perform her music all over Germany as well as in the US, Switzerland, Italy, France, England, Ireland, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic and Russia.
Roland Satterwhite is a multi-instrumentalist and singer who has lived in Berlin since 2008, when he moved from New York City. Aside from playing violin and singing in the popular Berlin Balkan swing band Django Lassi, he continues to develop and experiment as a solo performer, as well as to collaborate in other projects.
Arditi studied at the prestigious Rimon University Of Music in Israel. At the age of 17 he reached the finales at the "Israeli Jazz Player" competition. After his studies he preformed at several jazz festivals in Israel and Europe including, the "Umbria Jazz Festival," "Red Sea Jazz Festival," ''Jerusalem Jazz Festival’,’ and the "XJAZZ festival." Tal moved recently to Berlin and has quickly become one of the most sought after players in the German jazz scene. Tal has recently released his Debut album, ''Portrait''

ENTRANCE FEES
One of the reasons that makes the zig zag jazz club so unique is that it is the first and only jazz club in the world that manages to finance world class events through a crowd funding concept. How do we do it? Its quite simple… during the break of the concert we make an announcement regarding the collection for the evening. For most concerts (excluding the jam session) we inform our customers that a fee of around 15€ per person will allow us to fairly compensate the musicians. Some people give more and some give less… and that´s ok… we ´ve already successfully promoted hundreds of concerts like this!!!
EINTRITT
Einer der Gründe, die den Zig Zag Jazzclub so einzigartig machen, ist, dass er der erste und einzige Jazzclub der Welt ist, dem es gelingt nur durch freiwilligem Eintritt/Crowdfunding Events von Weltklasse zu finanzieren. Und wie machen wir das? Ganz einfach. Während der Konzertpause geben wir bekannt, dass wir Geld einsammeln werden. Bei den meisten Konzerten (außer Jam Sessions) informieren wir unsere Kunden, dass ein Beitrag von ungefähr 15 Euro es uns erlaubt die Musiker gerecht zu bezahlen. Manche geben dabei mehr und andere weniger... und das ist auch in Ordnung. Wir haben auf diese Weise schon Hunderte Konzerte organisiert.
