QUEEN YAHNA stammt aus Philadelphia, USA.
Sie wuchs in einer Familie von Sängern und Musikern und als Tochter des Bischofs J.W. Dennison mit spiritueller Musik auf.
Bekannt wurde sie in Europa Ende der 1970er Jahre durch ihre Produktion „Going Downtown To See Jesus“. Ebenfalls in diesen Jahren sang sie den Funk-Soul Hit „Ain't It Time“.
Ihre musikalische Vielseitigkeit zeichnet sie bis heute aus und reicht von Soul, Funk und Gospel über R&B, Blues, Rock und Jazz bis zum Musical. In diesem Genre glänzte sie in vielen Rollen. Unter anderem spielte sie am Broadway die Rolle der Maria in der Oper von Georg Gershwin „Porgy and Bess“, für die sie mit dem Tony Award, dem US-amerikanischen Theater- und Musicalpreis, nominiert wurde.
-QUEEN YAHNA gastierte in fast allen wichtigen Konzerthäusern, Theatern und Clubs in den USA und Europa, ebenso wie auf Jazzfestivals in Bregenz und Berlin. Während der Zeit des Eisernen Vorhangs war sie eine der wenigen amerikanischen Musikerinnen, die Gastspiele in der Sowjetunion und der DDR hatte.
In Berlin trat sie unter anderem in der Philharmonie, im Friedrichsstadtpalast, im Theater des Westens, der Deutschen Oper und der Komischen Oper auf.
Von 2012 bis 2014 leitete sie das Berlin Community Ensemble. Das Repertoire dieser international und interkulturell besetzten Berliner Gesangsgruppe bestand hauptsächlich aus Spirituals und Gospelmusik, vereinzelt sangen sie auch humanitäre Songs.
Mit diesem Ensemble führte sie wieder ihr ursprüngliches Soloprogramm „Songs Mahalia sang“ auf.
In den letzten Jahren zeigte sie, dass sie noch immer die „Queen of Soul“ in der Berliner Musikszene ist. Mit ihrem Programm QUEEN YAHNA’s Soul“ gibt sie seit 2012 einen Überblick über die große Bandbreite ihres Repertoires und ihrer Stimme. Es reicht von R&B über Jazz bis zu Gospel und Soul. Sie hatte Auftritte mit der Ebony Big Band und vielen anderen Gruppen und sorgte mit dem Song „A tribute to Etta James“ im März 2012 in Berlin für Aufsehen.
Im Januar 2013 nahm sie mit dem deutschen Produzenten Steven Töteberg zwei neue Songs auf. Das Album „TIME“ beinhaltet diverse Remixe.
QUEEN YAHNA gehört zur freikirchlichen Gemeinde „Protestant Faith Fellowship“ in Berlin-Dahlem. In den 1990er Jahren gründete sie dort den musikalischen Bereich und ist heute als Gemeindemitglied Ehrengast aller musikalischen Veranstaltungen, die dort stattfinden oder von dort ausgehen.
In der Gedächtniskirche sang sie am 14.September 2013 im Gedenkgottesdienst für verstorbene Motorradfahrer. Von der US-amerikanischen Botschaft in Deutschland wurde sie als „die wahre Botschafterin von Liebe und Frieden“ bezeichnet...

QUEEN YAHNA the charismatic artist of international fame, was born in Philadelphia, USA.
She is one of the rare personalities in show business who is believable in any facet of music. Her musical abilities cover every range from opera, gospel to rock, and in everything she does, her personal style is expressed.
Queen Yahna is a highly visual performer who must be experienced live. She captivates and excites all her audiences. The versatile performer has played numerous productions on great stages all over the world. She was seen on Broadway and in American National Productions as Maria in Porgy and Bess, for which she was nominated for a Tony Award as Best Supporting Actress.
-She also performed as Bloody Mary in South Pacific, as Big Bertha in One Mo’ Time, as Evillene in The Wiz and as Katisha in The Hot Mikado and as the Prayer Lady in God’s Trumbones.
She was the featured guest in the last episode of the TV series of ABC ‘s Cop Rock in the closing number” It’s not over until the fat lady sings.”
For her performance in Simply Heavenly, she received the Audelco Award for the most outstanding performance by a female in a musical production.
In Europe she was Maria in Porgy and Bess, The Rainbow Fairy in Under The Rainbow, the star of the evening in Broadway In Black and Best Of Broadway.
She toured the UK as Big Bertha in One Mo’ Time and wowed audiences in Switzerland with her role as Queenie in the world famous musical Showboat.
The fantastic singer is also a composer and had hits in Germany and
Europe. The Queen Yahna Experience, with her Cosmic Funk Orchestra, Shades of Blue with her jazz and blues trio, Going Downtown To See Jesus, with
her contemporary gospel group Spirit, and her one woman show Songs Mahalia Sang, are well known throughout Europe.
She has graced the stages of most major concert halls, theaters, and clubs throughout the world, such as The Berlin Philharmonie, The Friedrichstadtpalast, The Theater des Westerns, The Bregenzer Festspiele, Radio France Concert Hall, The Komische Oper, The Deutsche Oper Berlin, and The Bern Stadt Theater. She has also performed at jazz festivals in Berlin, Montreaux, and Bern, as well as at the televised Hannover Jazz Festival in a tribute to the 100th Anniversary of Louis Armstrong.
Other performances include the Concert of International Artists Against Racism, where Queen Yahna and her Cosmic Funk Orchestra were the highlight of the evening along with Roger Moore, Sonny Bono, Vanessa Redgrave
and Kris Kristofferson. She also performed at the Annual AIDS Gala.
Her radio, film and television appearances continue.

Adam Lenox
Adam was born in 1968 in New York. At the time, his birth place; Greenwich Village, was pivotal in redefining Jazz and Rock ’n’ Roll. As son to the world renowned com po-ser/singer/songwriter, Bob Lenox, Adam’s babysitter roster read like the who’s who of Jazz greats. He grew up peering up at the likes of Stevie Wonder, Keith Jarrett and Kris Kristofferson and went on to while away his teenage years living in a 5 star hotel, in the renowned Jazz community; Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania. Here, he played bass in his father’s trio. When not performing with dad, Adam worked alongside countless musical legends: Dave Liebman (Miles Davis), Gerardo Velez (Jimi Hendrix), Lenny Kaye (Patti Smith), César Diaz (Bob Dylan) and Steve Missal (Billy Idol). Late night gigging and performing with his father to 30,000 strong crowds at the BCVC folk festival, naturally led onto Adam playing the Manhattan club circuit. Adam has a humble take on things; “Growing up in New York, at that time, was a “learning by osmosis” kind of experience. It’s inevitable that anyone in that position would have got caught up in the music.”

He is a 10 year veteran of the tough NYC blues scene.
He played with New Orleans legend, the late Earl King, the Holmes Brothers, and Ben E. King. He openned for Johnny Copeland, Walter “Wolfman” Washington and Little Feet. His versatility enabled him to work with Harry Belafonte, Manu Dibango and Cassandra Wilson. He worked with the Harlem Gospel Singers and Queen Esther Marrow for 5 years as guitarist, arranger, and musical supervisor. He last toured as guitarist with bass and vocal virtuoso Richard Bona.
Kenny Martin from New York, New York who studied at the Berkley School of Music in Boston and with such greats as Tony Williams, Jack DeJonette, Billy Cobham , and Narada Michael Walden . Kenny Martin is well known as being the original drummer for 13 years with the world renowned group "Defunkt". He has also toured and recorded with "Liquid Hips", Bill Bickford's "Bigfood", Bob Singleton's "Golden Gospel Singers", "Sharifa and WordSong" and with Ramesh Weeratunga's "Electric Rama".
Der Berliner Pianist Helmut Bruger begann im Alter von sechs Jahren Klavier zu spielen. Inspiriert durch die Musik von Herbie Hancock und Bill Evans begeisterte er sich schon frühzeitig für den Jazz. Von 1988-1991 lebte er in Boston (USA) und studierte dort am berühmten Berkeley College of Music. In dieser Zeit spielte er mit Jazzgrößen wie Roy Hargrove, Anthony Hart und Matthew Garrison zusammen. Seit 1991 lebt Helmut Bruger wieder in Berlin und ist dort nicht nur als freischaffender Pianist sehr gefragt, sondern feiert auch mit seinem "Helmut Bruger Trio" Erfolge (eigenwillige Interpretationen von Jazzstandards und Eigenkompositionen). Neben dem Jazz ist seine Stilistik auch von anderen Musikrichtungen wie Funk, R&B, Blues, Gospel und Latin beeinflusst.
