This special project has been put together by the drummer and composer ECHO winner 2017 Diego Pinera with some of the most important players in the jazz world, an "All-Star" Band with two of the major forces in the jazz saxophone: Tony Lakatos and Chris Speed.

Each on has a different style but both made a big impact on the jazz scene. On the bass will be Henning Sievers also one of the most demanded bass players in Europe.

The music will be a mix of jazz standards and original compositions by Diego Pinera and the other band members.

-Diego Pinera was born 1981 in Montevideo, Uruguay, but has lived in Germany since 2003. He studied at the Berklee College of Music (U.S.), the University of Music in Havana (Cuba), and the University of Music and Theater in Leipzig (Germany). Pinera’s encounters with Latin American music, and with jazz in all its breadth, have led him to develop an unmistakable style. Through the combination of his advanced conception of rhythm, a jazz sound with a Latin touch, and the freedom of improvisation his strong character comes across vividly. In Pinera’s music there is musical complexity and virtuosity in abundance, but it is imbued with great subtlety. He won the ECHO Awards 2017 as the best jazz drummer in Germany with his album "My Picture" feat. Mark Turner and Ben Street.

-Tony Lakatos was born in a musician family in Budapest, Hungary. His Father was a famous gipsy violinist as well as his younger Brother Roby. The musical study began on the violin at the age of 6. Began to play the saxophone when he was 15 years old, and became a professional musician when he won a national jazz competition in 1977. He graduated from the jazz department of the Bela Bartók Conservatory in Budapest 1979. Shortly after he moved to Germany in 1981, became one of the most respected saxophone player in Germany as well as worldwide. He performed as a saxophone soloist in numerous jazz/pop/rock recordings and concerts. Tony has played the saxophone about 350 LP/CD recordings as a leader or as a sideman. He has been touring and giving masterclasses in all countries of Europe, in the USA,Canada, Japan, South Africa, Lebanon,India,Thailand, Singapore,Taiwan,China and many other parts of the world.

-Chris Speed is a composer, clarinetist and saxophonist and is “one of the principal figures in a dynamic left-of-center jazz/improv scene in the city” (NYTimes). His own bands include Endangered Blood, Human Feel, yeah NO, Trio Iffy, Pachora and The Clarinets. He is a founding member of Jim Black’s Alas No Axis and John Hollenbeck’s Claudia Quintet (two of the most influential working bands today), works with Uri Caine (deconstructing works by Mahler, Mozart, Bach, Schoenberg, Gershwin) and maintains a busy career of touring, recording, performing, composing, practicing and teaching. Current projects include work with Craig Taborn's Heroic Frenzies, Michael Formanek's Ensemble Kolossus, Dave King's Trucking Co., Matt Mitchell Quartet, Mary Halvorson's Reverse Blue, Banda de los Muertos (NYC’s only Banda band), as well as touring his latest project, Endangered Blood (with Black, Trevor Dunn and Oscar Noriega) which was featured on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts in 2012. (Endangered Blood 2010, Work Your Magic 2013 Skirl). “Speed’s Endangered Blood originals stand out as his most melodically generous, accessible and warm batch of compositions he’s yet to produce.” –DownBeat
