Verbunden durch eine fünfundzwanzigjährige Freundschaft veröffentlichen Drummer Ali Jackson, Bassist Omer Avital und Pianist Aaron Goldberg - drei zeitgenössische Meister des Jazz mit einem enormen Erfahrungsschatz und Referenzen von Wynton Marsalis über Joshua Redman bis Kurt Rosenwinkel - ihre zweite gemeinsame Studioarbeit "Groove du Jour". Das Trio begann 1993, während der gemeinsamen Zeit an der New School of Jazz in New York, gemeinsam zu spielen und blickt nun auf einen Erfahrungsschatz von über zwei Jahrzehnten zurück. „Wir trafen uns um zu lernen, zusammen zu spielen und um uns gegenseitig zu ermutigen und zu inspirieren. Heute durch Erfahrung verbunden und ihrer bewusst, können wir uns einzigartig spontan einbringen in die Urform des Jazz, des Trios. Bound by a friendship of twenty-five years, drummer Ali Jackson, bassist Omer Avital and pianist Aaron Goldberg - three contemporary masters of jazz with a tremendous wealth of experience and credits ranging from Wynton Marsalis to Joshua Redman and Kurt Rosenwinkel - release their second collaborative studio effort “Groove du Jour”. The trio began playing music together in 1993 during their time at the New School of Jazz in New York and now looks back on more than two decades of experience. "We met to learn, to play together and to encourage and inspire each other. Today, connected by experience and conscious of it, we can uniquely spontaneously participate in the archetype of jazz. We want to connect the sound of the roots of jazz with the present, because this is what the the future of jazz is made of!" AARON GOLDBERG - Hailed by Down Beat magazine for his “quick-witted harmonic reflexes, fluid command of line and cut-to-the- chase sense of narrative logic,” Aaron Goldberg has made his name as one of jazz’s most compelling pianists.. Described by The New York Times as a "post-bop pianist of exemplary taste and range," Goldberg has released five albums as a solo artist and has performed and collaborated with Joshua Redman, Wynton Marsalis, Kurt Rosenwinkel, and Guillermo Klein, among others.
ALI JACKSON Multitalented composer, arranger, music educator, and jazz percussionist Ali Jackson is the ultimate modernist drummer of our times. He is considered to be one of the most versatile and innovative musicians of our times. Jackson is known to create a strong portrait of emotions through his playing—with vivid dynamism, energy, intensity and technique. Jackson uses the compelling and pulsating sounds of bebop, swing, funk, ballet, gospel, and classical influences to make us feel music in everything that we do. The 2012-13 season marked his 7th year as principal drum chair with the internationally recognized Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis.
OMER AVITAL He grew up in Tel Aviv, in a Moroccan-Yemenite family, where evidence of his Middle Eastern and Spanish influences came together with jazz and blues. He studied acoustic bass at the Thelma Yalin, Israel's leading arts high school. After discharge from the Israeli Army, Avital moved to New York City playing with Roy Haynes, Jimmy Cobb, Nat Adderley, Walter Bishop, Jr., Al Foster, Kenny Garrett, Steve Grossman, Jimmy Lovelace, and Rashied Ali. But his big break came in 1994, not playing with giants, but leading his own groups and big band during the after-hours sessions at Small's in Greenwich Village, along with pianist and co-collaborator Jason Lindner. Some of their sidemen included Mark Turner, Myron Walden, Gregory Tardy, Joel Frahm, Charles Owens, Grant Stewart, Jay Collins, Jimmy Green, Ali Jackson, Joe Strasser, and Daniel Freedman. Think with Your Heart and Arrival were the first of many CDs for the Fresh Sound/New Talent or Small's labels, and Avital continued working with an array of musicians including Joshua Redman, Aaron Goldberg, trumpeter Avishai Cohen, Anat Cohen, the Andalusian Orchestra Ensemble, the legendary Algerian pianist Morris Al Mdiuni and many more.
