The Zig Zag is proud to announce a brand new and fresh Sunday concert series that showcases a community of jazz artists responsible for bringing about an explosion of energy and life into the Berlin jazz scene. The series will feature some of the most in demand, highly skilled and exciting young jazz talents in the scene today. These young masters have taken the jazz scene by surprise by packing in the clubs and bringing back to life a love and passion for hard swinging music. Performances are completely acoustic with little to no amplification. Subtle interaction, melodic focus and soulful virtuosity is at play here. If you’re interested in listening to some of the finest swinging sounds of jazz this is not an event to miss out on.
«Russian Salvation» is a result of a partnership of two skilful instrumentalists, vocalists and band leaders - Konstantin Gevondyan and Eldar Tsalikov. In May 2018 both Konstantin’s and Eldar’s bands performed at a festival in Dresden, Germany, where they got to meet and hear each other for the first time. Both musicians very much enjoyed jamming together after the long festival days, so they came up with an idea to continue their friendship and music partnership in the future. Since then, Konstantin and Eldar have been preforming together numerous times during Eldar’s visits to Moscow, and now for the first time they’re gathering together to bring their special sound to the stages of Berlin.
Konstantin Gevondyan
Konstantin is a prominent Moscow-based trad jazz trumpeter and show man, the founder and leader of the «Moscow Ragtime Band», and other hot jazz projects, on both local and international scale. A few years before he graduated from the Russian Academy of Music in 2001 as a classical music artist, Konstantin had decided to devote himself to the music that really won his heart – New Orleans jazz. That’s exactly how the Moscow Ragtime Band was started by Konstantin and his friends from Gnessin music college way back in the mid 1990’s. Apart from successful performances in various jazz clubs and prestigious concert halls all over the world as a band leader or a soloist of popular music shows, Konstantin has built strong relations with top hot jazz musicians from different parts of the world, and specifically New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz. He has initiated and produced a number of international projects featuring the most demanded artists of today’s hot jazz scene including Meschiya Lake, Aurora Nealand, Richard Scott, Antti Sarpila, Charlie Fardella, Mara Kaye and many others.
Eldar Tsalikov
Born in 1993 in Rostov-on-Don into a musicians family. At the age of eight Eldar began learning saxophone at the «Kim Nazaretov Children’s Jazz School». After graduating in 2011 he moved to Berlin, where he continued his studies at the «Jazz-Institut Berlin», where he eventually picked up clarinet as his second instrument. In 2018 Eldar successfully graduated from the institute receiving the Bachelor’s degree as an instrumentalist, as well as the Master's degree as an arranger and composer. Being himself a skilful and a versatile musician, Eldar has been expanding his knowledge of jazz music (and not only), collaborating with numerous European and Western performers of various kinds of this genre: from the deep traditional styles, such as «hot jazz» (or «trad jazz») and swing (Jon-Erik Kellso, Evan Christopher, «The EarRegulars», Meschiya Lake, «The Musicomaniacs», «The Echoes of Django», «The Jungle», «Moscow Ragtime Band») to the modern kinds of jazz and experimental music (Greg Cohen, Joey Baron, Laurie Anderson, Elias Stemeseder, Manlio Maresca, «The HAF», Anna Webber's «Percussive Mechanics»). With those and many other artists, Eldar got to travel around different countries, performing in worldwide recognised venues and concert halls such as «Birdland» (New York / USA), «Elbphilharmonie» (Hamburg, Germany), «Konzerthaus Berlin» (Berlin, Germany), «TivoliVredenburg» (Utrecht, Netherlands), as well as taking part in festivals such as «Copenhagen Jazz Fest» (Denmark), «Ascona Jazz Fest» (Switzerland), «French Quarter Fest» (New Orleans / USA), «Glasgow Jazz Festival» (Scotland).

ENTRANCE FEES
One of the reasons that makes the zig zag jazz club so unique is that it is the first and only jazz club in the world that manages to finance world class events through a crowd funding concept. How do we do it? Its quite simple… during the break of the concert we make an announcement regarding the collection for the evening. For most concerts (excluding the jam session) we inform our customers that a fee of around 15€ per person will allow us to fairly compensate the musicians. Some people give more and some give less… and that´s ok… we ´ve already successfully promoted hundreds of concerts like this!!!
EINTRITT
