Alto saxophonist and composer Ornette Coleman was one of the most powerful and contentious innovators in the history of jazz. He widened the options in jazz and helped change its course. Partly through his example in the late 1950s and early 60s, jazz became less beholden to the rules of harmony and rhythm and gained more distance from the American songbook repertoire.
His own music, then and later, embodied a new type of highly informed folk song: deceptively simple melodies for small groups with an intuitive, collective musical language and a strategy for playing without preconceived chord sequences.
His early work a personal answer to his fellow alto saxophonist and innovator Charlie Parker lay right within the jazz tradition and generated a handful of standards for jazz musicians of the last half-century. But he later challenged assumptions about jazz from top to bottom, bringing in his own ideas about instrumentation, process and technical expertise.

Ukrainian trumpet player DIMA BONDAREV has already made himself a name as one of the most respected up and coming young jazz musicians in Germany. He has assembled an incredible group of musicians to pay tribute to the late and great Mr. Coleman. Featuring Felix Wahnschaffe on saxophone, Mark Pringle on piano, Matt Adomeit on bass, and Jesus Vega on drums.
Dima Bondarev´s dedication to jazz has been around since early childhood. LUDWIG HORNUNG
Born in 1986, started his education at the age of six with classical piano and drum lessons, during the following years won several prizes at jazz and classic competitions. He finished his studies at Jazz Institute Berlin with top grade, taking lessons with Prof. Hubert Nuss, Prof. David Friedman and Prof. Kurt Rosenwinkel. In parallel, he took classical lessons with Susanne Grützmann. Meanwhile he is an asked pianist, arranger and composer at the Berlin jazz scene, touring with a lot of bands and involved in several CD-Productions. His musical activities led him to Austria, France, Italy, Sweden, Czech, Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, South-Korea, Switzerland, Turkey, Netherlands, Denmark and USA.

MATT ADOMEIT began picking away at the mandolin at age 10, playing along with the tapes and other music left lying around his house in Hartford, Connecticut. His formal study of music would not begin until years later, when he grew to love the upright bass and the versatility it afforded him. The ability to play both jazz and classical, as well as to reference his folk roots was what really drew him to the instrument and made him stick with it. For Matt, it has always been this eclecticism that has defined his musical personality. Not content to just stick within the boundaries of his Jazz Performance major at Oberlin, he auditioned for and was admitted into the Oberlin Orchestra, which toured Carnegie Hall in New York in the winter of 2013. He has also performed at similarly prestigious venues such as Severence Hall in Cleveland and the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. In the jazz world Matt has shared the stage with numerous top artists in the field including Jamey Haddad, Dave Liebman, Paul Samuels, and Alon Yavnai, and performed in venues throughout the Midwest including Nighttown (Cleveland), Close Up 2 (Chicago), and the Dirty Dog Café (Detroit). It is however as a composer that Matt sees the greatest chance to meld his disparate interests. He has composed for a wide variety of his own bands including the Hip-Hop/Gospel/Rock band Knomadik and the sextet deturtle, a group combining a jazz trio with a classical string trio which was featured on NPR playing one of his compositions.

Born in 1984, JESUS VEGA began playing music at very early age, though it was not until the age of 17 that he discovered Jazz, thanks in part to the Education Program at the Monterey Jazz Festival. In 2012, after finishing his studies (Sacramento State University & University of Nevada, Reno), he made the bold move from California to
Berlin, where he now resides. He has had the privilege of performing/studying with: Peter Epstein, David Ake, Ingrid Jensen, Joe Lovano, Tia Fuller, Geoffrey Keezer, Ben Wendle, Shane Endsley, Josh Ginsburg, Ernie Watts, Vince Lateano, Julia Dollison, Mike McMullen, Butterscotch, Mike Johnston and many others. Jesus is influenced by everything around him and all the positives and negatives that life brings.

ENTRANCE FEES
One of the reasons that makes the zig zag jazz club so unique is that it is the first and only jazz club in the world that manages to finance world class events through a crowd funding concept. How do we do it? Its quite simple… during the break of the concert we make an announcement regarding the collection for the evening. For most concerts (excluding the jam session) we inform our customers that a fee of around 15€ per person will allow us to fairly compensate the musicians. Some people give more and some give less… and that´s ok… we ´ve already successfully promoted hundreds of concerts like this!!!

EINTRITT
