Combining timeless melodicism with forward–thinking lines and textures, the music of Jonathan Kreisberg continues to attract a growing international fan base. His compositions have been performed by his groundbreaking quartet on five continents.
As a guitarist, his sound and technique has influenced the next generation of players and has arguably contributed to the evolution of the instrument in jazz. For their show at ZIG ZAG Jazzclub, JKQ will perform music from WAVE UPON WAVE as well as brand new compositions that combine jazz tradition, instrumental virtuosity, modern soundscapes and influences from every corner of the world and beyond.

Jonathan Kreisberg
With a busy touring schedule and rave reviews from the press and peers, Jonathan is steadily becoming one of the most exciting new faces on the international Jazz scene. He has studied a wide range of music and performed in many eclectic situations. As a member of U.M.'s concert jazz band he played with Joe Henderson,Michael Brecker and Red Rodney. He performed 20th century works with the New World Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas. He has performed as a sideman in the groups of Dr. Lonnie Smith, Joe Locke, Joel Frahm, Greg Tardy, Roy Nathanson(Jazz Passengers), Donald Edwards, Jane Monheit, Ari Hoenig, Yosvany Terry and Lenny White, as well as leading his own groups including such notables as Larry Grenadier, Bill stewart and Scott Wendholt. He has released 4 critically acclaimed CD's on the Criss Cross and Mel Bay Labels.
Nitai Herskovits
Born in Israel to a Morrocan mother and a Polish father, Nitai started playing the clarinet at age 12, only to discover his love for the piano at age 15. Around that time, he was first exposed to the sound of jazz giants such as Wynton Kelly and Sonny Clark.
By the time he was 17, Nitai had moved to Tel Aviv to combine regular school with private music and piano lessons under the guidance of jazz educators Amit Golan and Yuval Cohen. He soon became interested in a rich variety of both classical and jazz music.
Nitai also studied classical music and theory for two years with well-known Israeli composer and educator Dr. Menahem Weisenberg and classical music educators Shoshana Cohen and Amir Pedorovits.

Jorge Rossy, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Greg Tardy, Charles Davis, Mark Guiliana, Zohar Fresco, Steve Davis Diego Urcola and Robert Sadin He has also recorded for Daniel Zamir’s "Redemption Songs" (John Zorn's Tzadik) "One" (Hatav Hashmini), for flutist Ilan Salem’s album, "Wild "(Razdaz), in 2011, and for Avi Lebovich’s 2013 album, "Volcano". Nitai can also be heard on Layerz's "Things On Top of Eachother" (RawTapes/2014), featured artist on "All Original" (Razdaz/2014) and Sprouts' "Sprouts" (Indie/2013).
Nitai was awarded the highest scholarship given by the Israel-American Music Foundation (AICF) four years in a row between 2004 and 2010. Another highlight was his onetime prestigious Chase Scholarship award in 2009 sponsoring a B.A. degree at the Jerusalem Rubin Academy of Music.
Nitai has had the privilege of touring all over the world and performing at many different venues: Salle Pleyel, Vienna Konzerthaus, l’Olympia, Alter Oper, North Sea Jazz Festival, Antibes Jazz Festival, Jazz à Vienne, Montreux Jazz Festival, Barbican Center and Tonhalle, to name but a few.
Nitai has been collaborating with internationally acclaimed bassist and composer Avishai Cohen. Avishai released Duende (EMI/Blue Note) in May 2012. Nitai joins Avishai on the piano in this beautiful duet album and in the arrangement of two of the tracks. In November 2013, the album Almah (EMI/Parlophone) was released, featuring a string quartet and an oboe. The latest trio recording, From Darkness, was released in February 2015.
Matt Clohesy, Australian Bassist living in NYC, left Melbourne in 2001. Since then, Matt has been performing and recording with artists including
Geoffrey Keezer, Ingrid Jensen, Maria Schneider, Donny McCaslin, Joe Locke, Eric Alexander, Joel Frahm, Diego Urcola, Eric Person, Will Vinson, Lage Lund, Matt Shulman, Kendrick Scott, Gretchen Parlato, David Schnitter, Manuel Valera, Ernesto Simpson and Paulette McWilliams. Prior to moving to New York, Matt received a Bachelor of Music at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne and worked with Australian artists including Dale Barlow, Mike Nock, Joe Chindamo, Vince Jones and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
Colin Stranahan
Born In Denver Colorado, and the son of a Jazz Educator, Colin Stranahan has always been surrounded by music. By his teenage years he was already actively working on the local Denver scene, and has recorded multiple records of Capri Records. After receiving the prestigious NFAA Presidential Scholar award in 2005 , he studied in California for one year as a Brubeck Institute Fellow. Shortly there after he attended the prestigious Monk Institute of Jazz. Stranahan was also one of the winners of the 2012 Thelonious Monk Drum Competition. Now living in Brooklyn, New York, Colin is among the most sought-after drummers in the world. working with such artist as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jonathan Kreisberg, Fred Hersch, Terence Blanchard, Dave Kikoski, Kevin Hays, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and many others. He also now is part of a collective trio featuring some of the most talented and praised you musicians in New York City. Rick Rosato on bass and Glenn Zaleski on piano. Together they are the Stranahan/Zaleski/Rosato trio. They have recorded 2 albums that have been very successful and a third on the way which was recorded Live at Smalls which is scheduled to be released in 2015.
Colin Stranahan currently holds teaching positions at a couple of different conservatories in Europe, where he teaches both private lessons, and ensemble teaching. Aarhus Royal Academy of Music, and London's Royal Academy of Music. Colin also has started teaching at a few summer Jazz programs including The Brubeck Institute Summer Jazz Colony, and The Fara Sabina Summer Jazz school and Festival in Fara Sabina, Italy. Colin also has been giving drum master classes all over the world. Some of these recently have included, Oberlin Collage, New England Conservatory, International Jazz Conference in Thailand, and at the Singapore Esplanade Jazz Festival.
