Der im Jahr 1976 in Kalifornien geborene Jazz-Trompeter und Flügelhornist JEREMY PELT , der fünf Jahre hintereinander „Rising Star“ auf der Trompete im Downbeat Magazin war, nimmt einen beneidenswerten offenen Raum in der modernen Jazzlandschaft ein.
Er spielt in der Tradition der Hardbop-Legenden Lee Morgan und Freddie Hubbard. Auf seinen zahlreichen CDs unter eigenem Namen frönt er einem modernen, akustischen Post-Bop mit Ausflügen in andere Stilrichtungen. Auf seiner neusten CD „MAKE NOISE!“ auf dem amerikanischen Label High Note, aber auch auf dem Album „TALES, MUSINGS AND OTHER REVERIES“ spielt er auf allerhöchstem Niveau.
Begleitet wird er von dem hochtalentierten Pianisten VICTOR GOULD, dem Bassisten VICENTE ARCHER, dem Schlagzeuger JONATHAN BARBER und der Percussionistin JACQUELENE ACEVEDO.
Gemeinsam nehmen sie eine intime Annäherung an expansive Post-Bop Zeiten in Angriff, die die Zeit zwischen Miles Davis 60er und Terence Blanchards frühen 80er Alben umspannt.
Jeremy Pelt hat einen breiten, warmen Trompetenton, seine Soli sind hochmodern und halten den Zuhörer in Atem. Unterstützt wird er dabei vor allem von seinem Pianisten Victor Gould, der diese Soli mit einer funkelnden Zartheit begleitet, die an den späten Mulgrew Miller erinnert. Durch die Percussionistin Jacquelene Acevedo bekommt die Musik auch einen starken „Afro-Latin“ Einfluss, was man besonders auf dem Salsa beeinflussten Stück „Bodega Social“ hört. Ein weiteres ist der Pop-Ikone Prince gewidmet, und auf dem Stück „Cry Freedom“ übertrifft er den kantigen, klassisch beeinflussten Stil der „Black Codes“ Ära eines Wynton Marsalis. Er hat auch ein offenes Ohr für schöne Melodien, was er auf „Your First Touch…“ unter Beweis stellt. Eine sinnliche Jazz-Ballade, die auch auf einem Leonard Cohen Album auftauchen könnte.

There hasn't been any orchestrated campaign boosting the profile of trumpeter Jeremy Pelt, but in little more than a decade after his arrival in New York he's generated considerable excitement. His group's latest recording comprehensively demonstrates why he's so well regarded.
Pelt is a technical marvel. He executes intricate solos with ease, plays gorgeous ballads in a tasteful manner, and never lacks flair or sensitivity. At the same time, The Talented Mr. Pelt is a group statement rather than an individual showcase. Pelt deliberately doesn't dominate the spotlight, and the band achieves a blend of spontaneity and precision that makes these songs a pleasure to hear.
The thematic menu features an interesting blend of romantic songs and tunes with either mythological or religious connotations. But Pelt and his bandmate-tenor saxophonist J.D. Allen, pianist Danny Grissett, bassist Dwayne Burno and drummer Gerald Cleaver-aren't doing gospel on "David & Goliath" or "Paradise Lost." The former closes the disc in the same demonstrative manner that "Pandora's Box" begins it. Pelt and Allen are comfortable alternating roles, playing in unison or responding to the rhythm section. The great Rudy Van Gelder's savvy sonic touches are evident throughout the excellent production.
Yes, it might be Pelt's upper-register licks, speed and lengthy authoritative phrases on uptempo pieces that reinforce his eminence among current trumpeters. But it's the group dynamic and the trumpeter's stunning solos on such pieces as "All My Thoughts Are of You" and "In Love Again" that truly highlight his brilliance.

- Drummer, Jonathan Barber, born in Hartford, CT, has been playing the drums since the age of 5. Jonathan was first introduced to the drums by his father and began nurturing his passion and talents at his family church. During his senior year of high school, Barber became a member of the Artists Collective in Hartford, CT founded by Jackie and Dollie McLean. There he studied with Master Artist, Renee Mclean, who introduced him to jazz, and its African roots and rhythms; it was at that point Jonathan knew he wanted to be a musician. He furthered his studies at the University of Hartford, Hartt School of Music, Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz, where he graduated Cum Laude, receiving a B.A. in Music Performance (Jazz Studies).
Jonathan has had the opportunity to perform with many artists such as, Jimmy Greene, Erykah Badu, Wallace Roney, Jeremy Pelt, Kenny Barron, John Patitucci, Kurt Elling, Terrace Martin, Charnett Moffett, Stanley Jordan, Harold Mabern, Steve Davis, Larry Willis, Abraham Burton and many more.
Since moving to New York, NY Jonathan has traveled and toured nationally and internationality, and performed in notable festivals and clubs. Currently, Jonathan Barber continues to tour and is now stepping out as a bandleader, performing in jazz clubs and festivals around the world, giving private lessons, and conducting workshops.
