Arkady Shilkloper ist ein international gefeierter Waldhornist und Alphornist, dessen Kreativität keine Grenzen kennt. Ausgebildet am Moskauer Gnessin-Institut und später am Bolschoi tätig, ist Shilkloper heute in den großen Häusern der Hochkultur weltweit zu Hause - im Jazz und in der Klassik. Er arbeitete mit Stars wie Lionel Hampton, Markus Stockhausen und Elvin Jones und gibt Meisterkurse auf der ganzen Welt. Als Mitglied des JazzBaltica-Ensembles war Shilkloper zu Gast bei der "JazzBaltica 2013". Shilkloper ist ein Wanderer, ein Suchender. So wie er sich spielend zwischen E- und U-Musik bewegt, genauso pendelt er zwischen Kontinenten und Kulturen. Das Reisen und die Veränderung sind Konstanten im Leben des Virtuosen, das Experimentieren und die Lust am Neuen sein Lebenselixier. Filmemacher Christoph Engel hat den Weltklassemusiker begleitet, auf einer Reise von Moskau über die Alpen, durchs Sauerland bis hin zur "JazzBaltica" in Niendorf an der Ostsee. Sein Film zeigt Shilkloper mit Laien- und Profimusikern und bei einem experimentierfreudigen Alphornbauer. Er beobachtet ihn beim Proben und Musizieren im Jazzclub wie auch im Klangraum Natur: "Wenn ich Alphorn spiele, scheint die Sonne", sagt Shilkloper, für den die Musik eine universale Kraft ist. **************************** Der Name Antoni Donchev wurde mit allen großen, renommierten, bulgarischen Jazz Awards verbunden. Sein Stern erschien auf dem musikalischen Horizont, als er die prominente "Acoustic Version" Jazz-Formation gründete, dessen erste Aufführung im Jahr 1985 beim Jazz-Wettbewerb in Belgien mit dem Grand Prix ausgezeichnet wurde. Ein Jahr später ging eine weitere Auszeichnung an "Acoustic Version" - diesmal noch mehr Prestige - die Jury von weltweit bekannten Kritikern Joachim-Ernst Berendt und Pawel Brodowski vergab den Grand Prix der Internationalen Jazz Föderation an Antoni Donchev und Christo Yotzov, mit dem Titel "Europas Junge Jazz Künstler des Jahres 1986". Er ist Dirigent der Bulgarischen National Radio Big Band und Professor an der National Academy of Music. Vladimir Karparov ist 1977 geboren und in Bulgariens Hauptstadt Sofia aufgewachsen. Er entdeckte früh die Musik für sich, beeinflusst hauptsächlich von der klassischen Musik und von seinem älteren Bruder- dem Pianisten und Komponisten Svetoslav Karparov. Vladimir hat angefangen Saxophon zu spielen, als er 12 Jahre alt war, in der Jugend Brass Band "Boteva Cheta". Kurz nach der Wende im 1989 und während seiner Schulzeit im Französischen Gymnasium "Alphonse de Lamartine" in Sofia hat Vladimir oft als Straßenmusiker gespielt. Dabei entwickelte er seine improvisatorischen Eigenschaften und vertiefte gleichzeitig seine Musikleidenschaft. Von 1995 bis `99 hat Karparov an der Musikakademie “Pancho Vladigerov“ in Sofia mit Schwerpunkt Jazz- und Popmusik studiert. Mit einem Stipendium der “Oscar und Vera Ritter-Stiftung“ begann Karparov 1999 an der Hamburger Hochschule für Musik und Theater (HfMT) zu studieren. Vladimir Karparov besann sich, je länger er fern der Heimat lebte, desto intensiver, der bulgarischen Volksmusik. Sie sollte von nun an zum festen und prägenden Bestandteil seiner Musik werden. Im 2001 siedelte Karparov permanent nach Berlin über, wo er sein Studium an der Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" im 2005 beendete. Die Teilnahme an diversen Festivals, zahlreiche Konzerte und Auszeichnungen in Europa, Asien, Latein- und Nordamerika, Nordafrika vervollständigen das Bild dieses vielseitigen Musikers. Kooperationen mit Größen der amerikanischen, west- und osteuropäischen Jazz- und Volksszene runden das Ganze weiter ab: Nach CD-Einspielungen mit verschiedenen Projekten veröffentlicht Karparov im 2007 sein erstes Album als Leader „Thracian Dance“. Im 2009 hat er sein zweites eigenes Projekt - das Forkolor Saxophon Quartett gegründet, dessen Debut Album „Forkolor“ im Oktober 2014 bei Unit Records veröffentlicht wurde. Im Oktober 2016 wird das neue Album von Vladimir Karparov Quartett erscheinen. Derzeit arbeitet Vladimir Karparov an der neuen CD von Forkolor Saxophone Quartett, die im 2017 veröffentlicht wird.

One of most unusual Russian musicians, Arkady Shilkloper plays French horn, flugelhorn, alpenhorn and many more unusual wind instruments. A native of Moscow, at the age of six Arkady began playing brass instruments and studied flugelhorn at the Moscow Military Music Academy until 1974. From 1978 to 1985 he was a member of the orchestra of the Bolshoi Theatre and the "Bolshoi Brass Quintet". With this world-famous ensemble and as a member of the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra from 1985 to 1989 he undertook numerous worldwide concert tours. Alongside with that he started playing traditional jazz with double-bass player Mikhail Karetnikov and avant-garde jazz in saxophonist Sergei Letov's band Three O (1985-1990). Since the collapse of the former Soviet Union Shilkloper has worked independently both as a solo performer and, since 1991, with Alperin and Starostin in the Moscow Art Trio and in other formations. In 1994 he played with Lionel Hampton, Elvin Jones, Lew Soloff and Herb Ellis in Idaho/USA and lectured as guest professor in Kansas City. He also has worked with Pierre Favre's "Singing Drums", Louis Sclavis, Rabih Abou-Khalil, Jon Christensen and in Christian Muthspiels' "Octet Ost" . Since 1997, he also plays in two Russian trios: one with St.Petersburg's best jazzmen - acoustic bassist Vladimir Volkov and piano player Andrei Kondakov and the other with Volkov and Sergei Starostin. He also participates in international project like Swiss musician John Wolf Brennan's Pago Libre and records as a guest musician with bands like Vienna Art Orchestra. Shilkloper is in demand as a soloist and a teacher for brass instrument workshops and symposia the world over. Shilkloper has mastered extended techniques for both the French horn and the alphorn. According to Leonard Feather, his control of the horn and his creativity have set a new standard. ****************************
The name of Antoni Donchev has been connected with all the major prestigious Bulgarian jazz awards. His star appeared on the musical horizon when he founded the prominent "Acoustic Version" jazz formation, whose very first performance on an European music stage was awarded the Grand Prix at the Jazz Contest in Belgium in 1985. A year later "Acoustic Version" was given another award - this time even more prestigious - the jury headed by world known critics Joachim-Ernst Berendt and Pavel Brodovski gave the Grand Prix of the International Jazz Federation to Antoni Donchev and Christo Yotsov, giving them the "Europe's Young Jazz Artist of 1986" title. Vladimir Karparov was born in 1977 and grew up in Bulgaria’s capital, Sofia. He discovered music at an early age, being influenced mainly by classical music and by his older brother- the pianist and composer Svetoslav Karparov. Vladimir began playing the saxophone when he was 12 years old in the Youth Brass Band “Boteva Cheta”. Shortly after the political changes in 1989, while studying at the French School "Alphonse de Lamartine" in Sofia, Karparov often played as a street musician. At that time he developed his skills of improvisation and deepened his passion for music. He studied at the National Academy of Music ”Pancho Vladigerov” in Sofia from 1995 to 1999- jazz and popular music. He quickly realized that his fascination gravitated more towards jazz; to deepen his knowledge in this area, he applied for an “Oscar und Vera Ritter-Stiftung“ scholarship to Hamburg’s Hochschule für Musik und Theater (HfMT), with success. Yet the longer Vladimir Karparov lived away from his home country, the more intensively he began investigating Bulgarian folk music, which gradually became an essential and irrevocable component of his music. Berlin’s richly fertile, multi-cultural jazz scene exerted a magical attraction on the young saxophonist. Karparov moved to the German capital in 2002 to continue his studies at Berlin’s Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” and graduated in 2005 with a degree in saxophone and teaching. His participation in various festival events as well as numerous concerts and awards in Europe, Asia, Latin and North America, North Afrika, together with his collaboration with names both on the American jazz scene and in Western and Eastern Europe, complete the picture of this versatile musician. After playing on a number of various projects, Karparov has released in 2007 his debut album as a leader “Thracian Dance”. In 2009 he founded his second project - the Forkolor Saxophone Quartet. The „Fokolor“ CD debut album was released in October 2014 on Unit Records. In October 2016 will be released the new Album-CD of V.Karparov Quartet.
